A Long Way Down is a Doctor Who Adventures comic strip published in 2014.
Summary
A colony of highly evolved woodlice are in danger at the top of a time tree when it is in danger of being cut down.
Plot
The TARDIS lands in a family garden on Earth where there is panic at the sudden arrival of a giant woodlice monster that has fallen from the tree that Isis and Ted's dad is about to cut down. When they turn up the heat on the creature, it scurries back up the tree. The Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald, along with the two children, climb up the tree after it. As they climb they realise the tree is getting bigger. Looking down they see the family house but it is different: it has a more futuristic look to it with rocket craft racing overhead. At the top of the tree they find a colony of woodlice monsters living in the tree. It is a Time Tree. Like normal trees they grow towards the sky but time trees grow forward through time. The woodlice monsters are an evolved and civilised species. The Doctor apologises to the woodlice he scorched when he realises that he had simply fallen from the tree. The settlement is rocked when down below Isis and Ted's dad returns to the garden tree with his axe. It is too far for the Doctor and his friends to climb down to stop the tree felling but the woodlice provide a leaf-boat to ride the air currents to the ground staying close to the trunk so as not to get lost in time. Once safely on the ground the tree felling is brought to halt, ensuring the tree continues to have a great future ahead of it.
