Clare Keightley was a student of Cambridge University in 1979. She aided Chris Parsons in his attempts to analyse The Worshipful and Ancient Law of Gallifrey, which he had borrowed from Professor Chronotis. They later helped the Doctor defeat Skagra's plans.

During the adventure, through telepathy, Chronotis transferred in her mind the knowledge to fix his broken TARDIS. (WC: Shada, PROSE: Shada, AUDIO: Shada)

In 2003, Keightley, now a professor, was the head of Jeremy Winterdawn's research team at Cambridge. (PROSE: Falls the Shadow)
