George Newman was a soldier who fought during the First World War. In 1917, he fought on the Italian front. During the Spanish Civil War, he was a journalist and reported on the war. He went with Ace to find his camera and encountered the God Seed. When the Control Unit took the Doctor and started absorbing energy from the TARDIS his risked his own life to save him.
