Musee de Louvre (PROSE: Meet Rose) commonly called just the Louvre, (TV: City of Death, PROSE: City of Death, AUDIO: The Church and the Crown) was known as one of the greatest art galleries in the universe. It was located in Paris, and it became a museum in 1793, but prior to that, it had been an official residence of the French monarchy. Its cornerstone was laid in the 12th century by King Philippe Auguste while one of the first five incarnations of the Doctor watched. (AUDIO: The Church and the Crown)

An assassination attempt was made on Admiral Gaspard de Coligny on 23 August 1572 as he returned from a meeting with King Charles IX of France which had taken place at the Louvre. De Coligny survived but was killed the next day during the St Bartholomew's Day massacre. (TV: The Massacre)

After Napoléon Bonaparte was defeated in the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815, British Army soldiers ransacked the Louvre and stole its paintings. (PROSE: Set Piece)

The Louvre held the greatest art work in the universe — the Mona Lisa. The Fourth Doctor visited it in 1979 with Romana II. (TV: City of Death) Lionel Harding visited it at least once, where he put up a fight to see the Mona Lisa longer than the twenty seconds allowed for each viewing as he loved the painting. (TV: Mona Lisa's Revenge)

The Twelfth Doctor claimed he sneaked François Boucher into the Louvre while Boucher was drunk. (COMIC: Moving In)

River Song and Helen Sinclair used the Louvre Pyramid to find a map hidden in Leonardo da Vinci's paintings, including Reclining Maiden with Foal and Church at Brindisi. (AUDIO: The Doomsday Chronometer)

When Rose was thirteen, in 2000 or 2001, Rose went on a school trip to (PROSE: Meet Rose) Paris, (COMIC: Art Attack) in France, with hareen Costello. They were meant to go to the Musee de Louvre (PROSE: Meet Rose) to see the Mona Lisa, (COMIC: Art Attack) but they "escaped" their teachers, and caught a train to Parc Asterix. They were caught by the police when they were waiting the queue for the Menhir Express. They were sent home, accompanied by Mrs Kissock, ruining her trip as well. (PROSE: Meet Rose) Becuase they flunked off, they never got to see the Mona Lisa. (COMIC: Art Attack)
