Summary
When the Doctor and Amy Pond arrive in London some time in the 21st century, they are having a nice cup of tea when they notice the latest fashion seems to be jackets with shades – lots of them! Accessing the local Wi-Fi network, the Doctor (using his sonic screwdriver), detects a massive surge of data that triggers a bio-molecular transmogrification of the jackets, engulfing and trapping the people inside them. Ripping a label from the clothing alerts the creatures to the non-human presence of the Doctor. The Doctor and Amy escape to a deserted shop and begin to analyse the fragment. It identifies itself as ICE (Interconnected Clothing Experience). The Doctor identifies it as a symbiotic life form disguised as clothing, a creature that shares resources with another living being, enabling it to co-exist as one entity. Following the Wi-Fi signal to a warehouse near Spitalfields Market the Doctor manages to track down the symbiote’s base where Fliis troopers are being ordered to capture the non-human alive and to prevent their interference. The orders are coming from an alien controller (large green and largely shapeless blob sitting in its own slime with limited mobility). When Amy catches her jumper and pulls a thread, the Doctor has an idea to stop the invasion. The Doctor hacks into the Fliis programming and ‘pull a loose programming thread’ which gives the ‘jackets’ a new template to follow – his own. The visors are basically webcams that send pictures of the Doctor directly into everyone’s brains. With control lost, the Fliis symbiotes engage emergency teleport and leave. Some time later the streets are full of bow-tie-wearing people – bow ties are cool!
