- Jack Harkness, who had been buried alive under Cardiff since 27 AD, was recovered by Alice Guppy and the Torchwood Cardiff team when they received a signal from a transmitter hidden on Jack by John Hart. In order to avoid a paradox from meeting his younger self (who at this time was on an assignment) Jack requested to be cryo-preserved until he caught up to his proper timeline in 2009.
