Tasman

Tasman was a Dutch explorer. He charted the north and west coasts of Australia, initially naming the land "New Holland". (AUDIO: The Transit of Venus)

Behind the scenes

In real life, his full name was Abel Tasman and his voyages to Australasia took place in 1642 and 1644. Tasmania was named after him. Not all of this information is presented in The Transit of Venus so how much of it remains true in the Doctor Who universe is unclear.
