Looting

Looting was the act of taking goods by force.

History

In February 1945, Adam Wheeler was wrongfully arrested in Piccadilly on charges of looting when a policeman saw him passing a bottle of whisky around orderlies evacuating a street struck by a V2 rocket. On 8 May, VE Day, Winston Churchill raised the matter with the Secretary of State to have him released. (AUDIO: Churchill Victorious)
