The Prisoner is a live action television series featuring elements of various genres, including the hybrid "Spy-Fi" genre, and was aired on ATV from 29 September 1967 - 1 February 1968. It was created by Patrick McGoohan, who also typically played the main character of the series, Number Six. The series later gained an audio revival by Big Finish Productions which began in January 2016, with the lead role played by Mark Elstob.

The ending of the short story Femme Fatale [+]Loading...["Femme Fatale (short story)"], principally a riff on The Prisoner's fellow iconic 60s spy-fi series The Avengers, ends with the Eighth Doctor and Sam Jones being abducted and waking up in what is implied to be the Village after resigning from their temporary jobs at the Ministry, closely mirroring The Prisoner's notorious opening credits. Shortly before passing out, Sam remarks: "Oh. We should have seen this coming".

Joseph Serf, a character featured in The Man Who Never Was [+]Loading...["The Man Who Never Was (TV story)"], was named after a pseudonym used by Patrick McGoohan when directing episodes of The Prisoner, to conceal the fact that he had greater involvement in the series than simply portraying the main character of the series.
