Rani complication

I head the Rani might be coming back,is there any truth to this rumour? If so it would be cool if the Tenth Doctor rescued a young woman from say...cybermen or something....and found out it was the Rani(weak after Regeneration.....--The draconian idot 18:38, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Well I'm not sure if you noticed the hand picking up the Masters ring prior to the end of The Last of the Time Lords. It gives speculation that the Rani will be there though whoever started the rumour that Davros will return I don't know. --Vitas 07:51, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

i think Lucy Saxon is The Rani she is just as blood thirsty as The Master, no human raised person would like the destruction of the human race, but after a year of putting up with him she took her chance and killed him, my thought is that she took the ring because it was her version of a chameleon watch because not many women have pocket watches, my theory is the master some how got memories but not her time lord genes she need it to return, The Master kept it hostage to keep her from killing him 11:52, August 19, 2008 TheHoBo

It might sound a bit stupid but I think River Song could be The Rani. Her darker side that has been mentioned could be a hint? Plus that she has been supposedly mentioned to be returning in Series 5. HellKaiserryo12 (TalkContribs) 16:15, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Her hand

i've seen almost nothing of the pre-rose doctor who, and i didn't see this talked about anywhere else on the site, but at the end of Last of the Time Lords we see a female hand with red nails grab a ring from the masters ashes, and we know the master is coming back in the end of time. does any1 else think it may have been her hand and she's also coming back? p.s. i'm very behind on news/speculation so... yeah... if this has been talked about b4, just give me the gist of it, or direct me to where it has been discussed.

tnx in advance.Akbaroth 10:19, December 23, 2009 (UTC)

Theory

I think that River Song is really the Rani.

I don't Think The Rani is River Song

I doubt River Song is The Rani because when she makes her debut and is killed she would probably regnerate if she was The Rani but Song's mind is placed in the computer of the library.

River told the Doctor that he wouldn't regerate in that episode, so if River was a timelord she wouldn't regenerate. Even so, it is still incredibly unlikely that River is the Rani.Icecreamdif 01:05, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Ushas

Which source states that The Rani's real name is Ushas? MrSiriusBlack 13:32, August 2, 2013 (UTC)

It looks like the article is stating Divided Loyalties as the source. Shambala108 15:11, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
Not necessarily her real name - it could just as well be her Academy nickname, like Theta Sigma. JagoAndLitefoot 23:58, January 2, 2015 (UTC)
"Ushas" now appears as the Rani's name in The Rani Elite as well. — Rob T Firefly - Δ - 19:24, January 5, 2015 (UTC)
Indeed, but it could just as well have been a nickname, not her "real" name. JagoAndLitefoot 12:19, January 6, 2015 (UTC)
If it was a nickname, it wasn't one she chose; in The Rani Elite she reacts angrily when addressed as Ushas by the Doctor. — Rob T Firefly - Δ - 05:36, December 7, 2015 (UTC)

Hellcat Squadran

Does anyone mind if I copy the information contained in this article onto a page for a fanfiction version of her on the Hellcat Squadran Wiki?

I'll just work under the assumption it's allowed, since I anticipate a heck of a wait before I get a reply.

It's generally a good idea to wait at least 48 hours for a reply; we all have real lives outside of the wiki. Especially when it concerns the copying of material from here to somewhere else. Thanks. Shambala108 20:50, January 11, 2014 (UTC)

Links to incarnations

Hi, I was wondering as we now have to incarnations of the Rani, to have the template links to each individual incarnation, like there is for the Master with {{Delgado}} and {{Maqueen}}, to have the template link to Kate O'Mara's incarnation, I suggest {{O'Mara}} and Siobhan Redmond's incarnation {{Redmond}}. What's everyone's opinion on this?. This may be more useful in the future, if there are more Redmond Rani stories. I suggest suggest this as I just edited the Redmond section following a like from the Rani Elite and had to find the appropriate section rather than the link just going to it. Adric♥NyssaTalk? 22:45, February 15, 2015 (UTC)

I think these templates would be useful to have as we are keeping the Rani to one article. I made an example one on my user page based off the Master templates, but the documentation didn't come out right. However, it still works: {{User:PicassoAndPringles/Template:Redmond}} gives the Rani. Obviously this shouldn't be used on actual pages, it was just a proof of concept, and it could be moved over to the actual Template namespace. P&P talk contribs 03:27, February 16, 2015 (UTC)
How many incarnations of the Rani are there? Shambala108 20:13, February 16, 2015 (UTC)
Only two so far, but I think that this idea is a good one. We do it for the Monk, who only has one more incarnation than the Rani. Ben Moore512 18:16, May 20, 2018 (UTC)

Article image

Seems an odd choice of header image - is this even from a comic strip? Or a DWM article or is it just fanart? Surely a better header image would be a screenshot from Mark of the Rani/Time and the Rani? Notsimonpegg 03:44, November 23, 2015 (UTC)

If you ever wonder about an image source, you can click on the image and look for the license. That will tell you where it's from. In this case, it's a comic story image. I believe there was an image here before from one of the TV stories, but it had been deleted a while back. Shambala108 03:52, November 23, 2015 (UTC)
Any way to reinstate the previous one? The current image seems completely out of place. Notsimonpegg 04:20, November 23, 2015 (UTC)
After doing a little digging, this is what I found: I deleted the image a few months back because it was a publicity image. However, I wasn't able to find an existing image of her that would fit our guidelines. So the infobox had no image until this comic image was added.
If a good quality image, following Tardis:Guide to images, can be uploaded from one of her tv stories, it can be proposed as an infobox image. Shambala108 04:28, November 23, 2015 (UTC)
Rani KO.jpg
I've had a look at my screenshots from The Mark of the Rani and Time and the Rani and thought this would be the only appropriate image from my collection. Could I propose a rolling image with both Kate and Siobhan as per Rassilon and the Master? Adric♥NyssaTalk? 17:58, November 23, 2015 (UTC)

The image itself is from Vworp Vworp! -- I apparently uploaded it months ago when I thought that we needed to have pages on the strips within. I have since realized that it's a fanzine and thus not official and should be covered as if it were a Charity publication (as in we shouldn't). Sorry for the confusion, will mark for deletion. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 20:51, November 23, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, OttselSpy25. Now if someone could upload a more tightly cropped version of what AdricLovesNyssa has proposed, that would make a good infobox image. Shambala108 21:27, November 23, 2015 (UTC)
Rani Time and the Rani.jpg
It's good for now, but isn't she in a disguise? Got a real old-Doc-Brown look to her. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 01:01, November 24, 2015 (UTC)
Surely an image from Time and the Rani better encapsulates the "Rani look"? Even one looking to the right is better in my eyes. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 01:11, November 24, 2015 (UTC)

I hope there are enough potential images of her to give us a tightly cropped infobox image. I'm posting an image of Jamie here to show how tightly we like infobox images to be cropped. The face fills most of the frame, and there is little of the background visible. Shambala108 03:40, November 24, 2015 (UTC)

JamieLooksLeftTAS.jpg
Well until we can find an image that close I suggest that we use File:Rani Redmond.jpg. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 05:39, November 24, 2015 (UTC)

Really now? Kate O'Mara is the iconic (and television) actress, not Redmond. Notsimonpegg 06:42, November 24, 2015 (UTC)

Ok I'll have another go later, and in response to OS25 this is taken from just after she removes the mask and the wig. Adric♥NyssaTalk? 07:34, November 24, 2015 (UTC)
Given that the Master, the Doctor, Rassilon and Romana all have a rolling image, I think we should do the same here. LelalMekha 11:22, November 24, 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately, Tardis:Images and perspective states, "Novel or audio covers may also be potential sources for in-universe imagery, but only when no other source has an image to offer." Since we have several screenshots of her, the CD cover is out. Shambala108 15:31, November 24, 2015 (UTC)
Yea, but we need an image of O'Mara playing the Rani not in disguise. Basically someone needs to watch Time and the Rani in my opinion. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 17:22, November 24, 2015 (UTC)
or later on in Mark as she spends episode 2 not in disguise, Adric♥NyssaTalk? 21:30, November 24, 2015 (UTC)

Splitting the Rani

With the Monk having recently been split off into their respective pages, I feel it is time to split up the Rani. With both being clearly distinctive incarnations (in Vortex 70, when Redmond asked if she was simply playing Kate O'Mara's incarnation she was told "No, we want you to bring a different tack to it, as it's a different incarnation of the Rani."), it's fairly simple to split them apart.

As it stands, there is no jurisprudence saying that we shouldn't split the Rani. The Rani's timeline is fairly straight forward. With only two incarnations (and a brief mention of her during the War in Heaven), we would be splitting the pages into:

  • The Rani for the overall Time Lady. This would include reference to the incarnation active during the War in Heaven under the "Undated events" subheading.
  • First Rani for the first incarnation, as portrayed by Kate O'Mara. Kate O'Mara is clarified as the first incarnation explicitly in PROSE: Time and the Rani).
  • Second Rani for the second incarnation, as portrayed by Siobhan Redmond. In the story AUDIO: The Rani Elite, the Rani alludes to having regenerated shortly after her encounter with Sixth Doctor/Seventh Doctor on Lakertya. Likewise, Siobhan Redmond's incarnation is demarked as the immediate successor to Kate O'Mara's incarnation in Vortex 70.

I have drafted up pages in my Sandbox for all three pages, so if approval is granted on this, it can be done rather swiftly. NoNotTheMemes 18:43, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

I am in favour of this. I'm surprised it hasn't already been done actually, considering the Rani's timeline seems to be one of the simpler of the Time Lords. LauraBatham 02:19, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
Seems sensible. SherlockTheII 09:19, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
