Automaton

Hey, if you get a minute, could you move Automaton to Automaton (The Empty Planet) and change all the links. Thanks--

New Logo and DWA

I've unlocked my talk page. I think it was when my profile was being majorly vandalised I locked it, and the talk page was locked alongside it. So that's it open now. Thanks for the logo. I will indeed be using it. Thanks.

And I'm glad you think the idea to nuke the questions is fantastic. Would you like to become one of the admins? Because even if you're never there, if there's a major problem, it'll always he handy for you to have admin powers there.

We do actually have a policies page, although BC didn't seem to follow these either. He has since had all his powers removed and has been blocked. Now that I've reviewed the policies with just some minor changes in wordings, I'm deleting the pages.

If you'd like to help, I'm more than happy to make you an admin, but if you don't have time and would rather spend your time here, I completely understand. Thanks again. --The Thirteenth Doctor 17:26, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

And, do you think a bot would be useful? I emailed wikia before and they said that there was no way to delete all of the questions on the site at once, and would have to be done by hand. But, would a bot be able to do that? How difficult would it be to set up? --The Thirteenth Doctor 18:11, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism on the Chloe Webber page.

An anonymous user is using really...questionable and un-encylopedic language on the Chloe Webber page. Already reverted once, and was re-reverted. No idea if this is the right place or person to ask, but oh well. -- Tybort (talk page) 00:29, September 7, 2011 (UTC)

A little bit of help

Hey there Czech. I'm Jo, and I'm admin of the Left 4 Dead wiki. I must say, this is a really nice looking wiki site. The last major update Wikia distributed really messed up the Left 4 Dead wiki, so I was wondering if you'd be willing to teach me a thing or two about some of the coding used here. Please let me know, I'd like to make my wiki less of an eye sore. Thanks in advanced! {{SUBST:User:Jo The Marten/sig}} 00:55, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

I particularly liked the templates for protected pages. (The little tabs on the left side of the frame). {{SUBST:User:Jo The Marten/sig}} 01:13, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
Ah. Hm. Well I as going to use them for featured articles since our previous featured templates overlap over Wikia's stuff on the right side of the frame. Not sure how it messes up old browsers though. Hopefully no one will mind. {{SUBST:User:Jo The Marten/sig}} 01:57, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
Oh yes, I can understand how that's an issue. I'm more than certain a few users will complain about monitor size being an issue. But I've still got a few more ideas that might work...Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciated it. :) From one Whovian to another. {{SUBST:User:Jo The Marten/sig}} 02:14, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

More cleanup of the Tersurus --> UNIT years Master

After your merger of Tersurus into UNIT years, the locked Template:Masters now needs the "Tersurus" bit to be removed. -- Tybort (talk page) 02:04, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

CC-BY-SA & the New Editor

I did look briefly into the CC BY SA 2.0, at least one other wiki has it in use. But if you think this isn't enough then I'll send off a report.

New Editor

I missed the preview button, then I realised it's white, I'd imagine that this is part of the problematic change over.

Do Wikia think? Ever? Or do they just keep adding bad features?

Although, I didn't like "Wiki skin"/"Oasis". and grew to live with it. Being able to shove away the right hand side thing is good. But not being able to scroll the whole page, bad. I like to have what I'm focusing on in the middle of the screen

Yes, I shall send off a report, tomorrow, when I'm less likely to rant/swear at them, at the moment I want to mess around and see the extent of their thoughtlessness. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:55, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to tackle the less complicated issue, that I already tackled last message and that's of CC 2.0. Don't worry about it, the feature that exists now where you can upload pics or grab them from Flikr (which is incidentally where I got all the images that have the CC 2.0 license on them from) attaches the CC 2.0 licence to it. And while we know Wikia makes some idiotic decisions I don't think they'd make this sort of mistake.
Now onto the bigger more complicated question that I want to avoid.
The switch to Oasis didn't make me want to leave, countless other things didn't make me want to leave.
This does, it's made the editor so unsuable I'm seriously thinking of just going and I dunno, editing Wikipedia where they don't make these stupid design decisions.
I really feel for you, considering I don't know how many days (weeks/months?) that you've spent trying to make this site look as good as it did.
I think we need two forum topics, one Tech notes/Important messages that is just an announcement for:
  • Stuff that doesn't work.
  • Stuff that partially works.
  • Stuff that hasn't changed.
  • Workarounds.
  • Other stuff.
Then another forum topic for reports with the same basic headings; Not working, Partially working, workarounds.
We should also have a link to the Special:Contact page so people can go straight to them and to Sarah Manley's blog page as well.
Both should be just reports not discussions, maybe a third for I dunno people to discuss it?
I sometimes think frustration is good, in that I hope it will force editors to put that frustration into words and send it to Wikia, or alternatively it will drive people away and therefore show Wikia there's been a drop in traffic because of this new change. Or is this too harsh an approach?
Monobook is an option (weren't wikia going to turn it off at some point?), but I don't think it's a valid one for us to send anyone to. It should be the very last resort.
Firstly I think you need to absolve yourself of all responsibility :). Then make up a big sign pointing towards Wikia central, and then kick back with a cold/hot beverage. Hopefully this will make the headache go away.
I don't think we need to get too involved with the user fallout. As I've said two forums or three, the third would be a venting one I'd say. Wikia central for more information and their forums.
I think if we have things like that in place where people can see what isn't and what is working and that we didn't just turn it on for shits and giggles and that it's another of Wikia's "quirks" of trying to make the sites under its bosom function better for "new editors" (its reason for most changes) while fraking around with the user experience of everyone else. Then I think editors will understand. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:42, September 9, 2011 (UTC)

Pictures

If you're referring to the Silent and Uncle images, then I didn't upload those. I only got as far as Nephew on that page. I added copyright to all of the images I uploaded, as I did that on 30th August, when it was necessary to add copyright using the uploader. D0ct0r11  18:29: Thu 9 Sep 2011

Ah, I see. I got the impression that you were referring to photos uploaded yesterday. I'll be sure to use Special:MultipleUpload in future. D0ct0r11  21:58: Thu 9 Sep 2011

Re: Chat

To answer your question, what I meant by "the code almost worked" was that while it did align the the TOC, it still pushed the rest of the content beneath it. However, I think I've found that making it part of the infobox template prevents that problem. So thanks for helping me!
