I've deleted the message you left on "Doug87" as the user doesn't exist (if they did they'd have a talk welcome page), the user page/contributions page has no contributions or deleted contributions. I think there's a few IP users masquerading as "Doug87", the user who left the talk comment above (90.210.131.149) also left a few talk page comments on my talk page where they pretend to be 4 different users. I've deleted your comment left on "Doug87"'s talk page just so the user doesn't gain any legitimacy (please restore it if you think it should be left intact though). Deletion policy

Hey, I just wanted to ask you opinion on adding the following to Tardis:Deletion policy (or something to the same affect).

"Brevity is not a reason for deletion unless the subject matter is covered by an article with a similar agenda."

I'm not trying to suggest we list all the invalid reasons for deletion but cases like this seem to be quite prevalent and so it would be nice to have something to refer to. It's not a big change, but it would be quite handy. What do you think?----Skittles the hog--Talk 13:08, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

We need to settle the validity of FP as a resource before you continue adding tons of material about it

Please stop writing articles so as to suggest that an FP source has claimed something about Gallifrey, Time Lords, the Doctor, or any other BBC-copyrighted item. If you can't produce a page number in a FP book that actually says "Gallifrey"' then don't claim that an FP source talks about Gallifrey. I know you love FP, and you're au fait with all the little "code words" and sly references to BBC concepts, but please don't go beyond what the text actually says.

It's highly misleading to readers to claim that Of the City of the Saved... says something about a Time Lord named Handramit who left Gallifrey when neither "Time Lord" nor "Gallifrey" appears in the text of the book.

There is only one narrative about Faction Paradox that is true to the DWU, and that's the one that happened in the EDAs. The Lawrence Miles spin-off wasn't allowed to refer to anything in the DWU by its proper name for legal reasons. We can't now go back in and try to decipher the code language that he used to get around legal restrictions. It's absolute madness for us to attempt something like that.

Obviously this is just my very strong opinion, and not policy. I'm just asking you to stop making these kind of articles until the matter can be settled once and for all by community consensus.

Hey, I'm really worried about this lock that you and Skittles have jointly done at River Song. Locking a main character's page during the period of time when most editors really want to write about that character is a bit of an own goal. Fine, we want to protect pages about stories that haven't been published before. But locking River Song after an episode with a big revelation about her? We really don't have any cause to do that, except possibly if there were an actual edit war. We want a lot of activity after episodes are broadcast. Sure there might be moments where an article reads rough during that creative process, but we don't want to stop all editing dead in its tracks. In simplest terms, that's just no fun for our editors. We're already having a tough time making them understand why they've got to wait until an episode is broadcast to edit the page about it. We can't very well then turn around and say, "Now you can't edit after that episode has gone out."

We want people writing when they're most enthusiastic about a subject. Some of the revisions are gonna be crap, but if we have faith in the wiki process, the article will soon find its level.

Also, you're kinda misrepresenting things at Talk:River Song#Why is it locked? when you say, "it was protected before". Yes, the article has been protected before, but never locked. There is no precedent for this action you've taken; I'm pretty sure that I've never seen a new series character page ever fully locked before.

Please remove the lock ASAP. It's pissin' reasonable editors off, as evidenced by the discussion on the rest of the page. Indeed, editors who could have helped you police the page have now been alienated by the lock. Locking isn't really supposed to be done in the main namespace, save for instituting a cool-down period during a genuine edit war. As indicated at tardis:protection policy, Its main use is really in other namespaces, like template:, file:, tardis: and help:.

Reverted The Eternity Trap

No worries. I think that was actually my fault for not having the bot look at the novel page when it was doing the original switchover from Zamper to Zamper (novel) and Zamper (planet) back to Zamper. I just manually changed the novel page, though. See it's stuff like this that makes me believe that all stories should just be auto-disambigged. I do at least five of these kind of switchoevers every week.

Page delete

Hi Revanvolatrelundar (wow, that's a mouth full), and I recently created River Song (Mels), which you subsequently deleted. I'm an active member of multiple Wikia communities, and so I was wondering why was it deleted? I was under the impression that pages were being created for all of Melody Pond/River Song's incarnations, including Mels. The reason I assumed this was for two reasons. One, being the talk page discussion, and two being the creation of Melody Pond (River Song). I have realised, that I named the article incorrectly, and while creating the article I was planning to request it be moved to the proper name, being 'Melody Pond (Mels)', but before I could it was deleted. River Song

Recently a source was added to the page "River Song "for the Little Girl in the Impossible Astronaut being River, as discussed on River Song's Talk page. I was just wondering why this has been removed? Aliyoda 12:14, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

But what if (as in this case) an out of universe source is all we have? There is no complete in-universe proof that the little girl is River, and without this source it is mere speculation, which (as I understand) isn't allowed on in-universe articles either?

First, let me say that I'm very happy with the way this was ultimately resolved; the Behind the Scenes entry answers Aliyoda's question about the fact appearing in the article, without needing any kind of clumsy attempt to shoehorn it into the in-universe sections.

However, I wish you would have responded on the Talk page, or left me a message, or at least left an edit summary. We had a discussion going on between multiple users, we came to an agreement, I did what we'd agreed to, and it was reverted without comment. This seems to be a general pattern on this wiki; there's little reason to try to use the Talk page to improve the article when others are just going to change the article back without discussion, and as a result the Talk pages end up being more about random speculation than serving any useful purpose. --173.228.85.35 06:14, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

Uncategorized files

The licensing of all images in Special:UncategorizedFiles has been completed. To the extent that there are images left there, they are most likely simply waiting for a cache update to whisk them off the page. By no later than Wednesday the caching will have cleared away any remaining stragglers.

I have taken some time to manually (well, semi-automatically, let's say) affix the proper licenses to a great many of the pictures that used to be there. From Wednesday forward, all pictures discovered in UncatFiles will be subject to completely automatic deletion. A number of warnings have been placed on the wiki to this effect. You may direct users to Help:Files should they come to you with the question, "What happened to my file?"

I plan to implement an automatic run more or less when I feel like, but on a weekly basis when any of our shows are in season; at least monthly when not.

user:Doctor Who 63, far and away the biggest offender, has now been put on what I would call a "final warning". If he uploads even a single new picture without a license, there are certainly adequate grounds to block him. I would suggest a block of no more than a week at first, just to let him or her that we are completely serious about needing image licenses. His latest offense comes from 4 September, well and truly after two or three warnings from TD. If he had ever acknowledged TD in the past, to let us know that he was having problems understanding what to do, the case would probably be different. As he's been asked several times, and yet continues to do break the rule. Yes, his behavior is being aided by the "add a photo to this gallery" bug, but since he/she won't respond we're left with only the option of taking some overt action. Again, you'll be looking for any uploads after 11 Sept without a license. Thanks.

Ministry of Chance

Hey, I've deleted everything on the wiki having to do with the Ministry of Chance — or at least everything that was linked to Ministry of Chance, except for the Minister of Chance, himself. The creators have firmly said on the Flashing Blade podcast, and elsewhere, that it absolutely does not occur within the DWU and it should not be interpreted as such. Obviously they have zero backing from the BBC.

It simply doesn't belong on the wiki. I dislike having to invalidate so much of your work, but this is well beyond the scope of what we should be covering. I don't think this deletion requires a forum discussion because it's precisely in line with other deletion decisions for BBV things, to which you were a party and in agreement. This is like The Stranger all over again. Or like covering other fictions in which, I dunno, Ian McNiece has played Winston Churchill just because they share a character and actor with Doctor Who.

Eighth Doctor Timeline

For sure! I'd love some help, I mostly chose the Eighth Doctor because I've read/heard most of the stories involving him (I've not read several of the STs) and it's got fairly easy limiting points to separate out things (Gallifrey's destruction, Romana etc)

I've been rewriting the timeline page as a proof of concept for the Forum:Timeline pages post, to show how I think all the timeline pages should look.

I've moved the page from a subpage of my user page to a subpage of the current timeline page (Eighth Doctor - Timeline/Work in progress) so it's more accessible for work by multiple users. I don't think it should be the current page as it's not in a state that's ready. When we decide to integrate it into the current timeline page I'll merge the pages so the history can be preserved.

I'm undecided as to how to present the information. Currently I've just got it all indented, which was the easiest way to do it, but I was thinking maybe presenting it in a table might be better.

One of the things I want to do with the Timeline pages and sections on story pages is explain why we've placed the stories where we've placed them. Because if you look through some of the DWREF stuff some of the stories have very little reasoning for their placement, and I don't think the DWREF is always right, some of the other sources present as good as placements. But I want ours to give reasons so people can understand better why things are where they are.

I'd also like to embrace the idea some things just can't be placed, I know that sort of goes against the idea of creating a big information library, but some things just don't have enough information, but we can still add info to an unplaced section as to why we can't place it. Lance Parkin's AHistory has this, at the very back a list of "None of the Above" stories that don't have enough info to fit into a history. I know some things we can place vaguely but, I dunno some things are just very vaguely set.

Onto in-story lists of companions, I would tend more to go with lists of companions pointing towards where in his timeline it exists rather than in the specific order they happen to have travelled with him. --Tangerineduel / talk 03:55, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
