Up All Night was the fifth of five Night and the Doctor shorts produced exclusively for the Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series DVD and Blu-ray box sets. It was written by Tom MacRae , and serves as a prequel to the events of Closing Time.
Synopsis
Craig, Sophie and Alfie have a brief scene in which Craig discusses his fears of dealing with his son.
Plot
Craig Owens wife, Sophie leaves for the weekend to attend something with her friends. Since the Doctor last saw Craig, they have moved house and started a family. When Sophie leaves Craig receives multiple phone calls offering to help with their baby Alfie. There is a knock on the door Craig answers the door exclaiming "I can do it on my own". The Doctor is the one at the door, he runs up the stairs mumbling "you are not alone". The Doctor opens the first door he see's, and yells "whatever you are get off this planet". Then a loud cry comes and we see a baby. The Doctor starts to be suspicious when one of the woman working at the store tells the Doctor about a silver rat (really a Cyber-Mat). The Doctor finds out there is a ship underneath the shopping center containing six Cyber-Men. At the end of this episode the Doctor takes envelopes and paper in the color of blue, Craig asked the Doctor "where are you going" and the Doctor replies "America". The Doctor leaves Craig and Alfie with Craig's Stetson. After the Doctor leaves, Sophie comes home, with Alfie saying his first word "Doctor".

Story notes
- This story is a prequel to Closing Time.
- At 1 minute 56 seconds, this is the shortest of the Night and the Doctor shorts.
- This is the only Night and the Doctor short not to feature the Doctor, nor any mention or appearance of River Song.
Myths and rumours
- Current fan speculation is that this short was intended to be released as a prequel to Closing Time in the same manner as prequels for other series six episodes, but for unknown reasons it was not released. To date no one from the Doctor Who production team has stated whether this short was produced as an intended prequel or as a DVD/Bluray bonus feature.

Production errors
- The episode is erroneously credited on-screen as having been written by Steven Moffat. The booklet that accompanies the Complete Series 6 DVD/Bluray boxset corrects this error.
Continuity
- The power fluctuates, followed be the sound of Cybermen marching, foreshadowing the events of DW: Closing Time.
