Albert, titled Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, (PROSE: A History of Humankind) was the husband and prince consort of Queen Victoria.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

On 10 February 1840, Prince Albert married Queen Victoria. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary) The prince was her cousin, (PROSE: A History of Humankind) and they had five daughters (TV: Tooth and Claw) and a son named Bertie. (AUDIO: The Torchwood Archive, etc.) They had a total of nine children, (PROSE: A History of Humankind) including Edward, (AUDIO: The Death of Captain Jack, etc.) Alice, Beatrice, Leopold, (PROSE: The Time Traveller's Almanac) Helena, (PROSE: Pride of Mayfield Star Lines Beached in Devastating Storm) and Victoria, (AUDIO: The Sonomancer) who later married into royal and noble families across Europe, before Albert died in 1861. (PROSE: A History of Humankind)

In 1842, Albert accompanied the Queen on the first train journey by a reigning monarch, due to his interest in science and technology. (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac)

Together with George MacLeish, he created the light chamber, a device to combat the threat of "werewolves" as dictated by legend. Albert had the Koh-i-Noor fashioned into the optimum shape to best amplify the light of the Moon; this meant that it was constantly being re-cut and once finished, it was half its original size. (TV: Tooth and Claw)

Albert died from typhoid fever (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac) in December 1861, leaving Queen Victoria a widow. (PROSE: The Lampblack Wars) He never saw the Koh-i-Noor's completion. (TV: Tooth and Claw) His death affected the Queen profoundly and she withdrew from public life for much of the 1860s, rarely visiting London. (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac) Victoria developed a taste for the occult, with the hope of making contact with him. (TV: Tooth and Claw) According to Victoria, for years following the death of Albert, his bedroom was kept as it had been, and servants brought hot water to Albert's bedroom every day, "in case he have need of it". (AUDIO: Fortitude) For the rest of her life she wore black as a sign of mourning. (PROSE: The Time Travellers' Almanac)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

Following her encounter with the Lupine Wavelength Haemovariform, she and the Tenth Doctor reflected on Albert cutting the Koh-i-Noor to save her life, remarking that he was protecting her even from the grave. (TV: Tooth and Claw)

The Queen believed that John Brown had foretold Albert's death. In 1878, Kamelion appeared to Victoria and Brown in the guise of the ghost of Albert to convince her to dismantle and cover up the British space programme. (PROSE: Imperial Moon)

In the 49th century, refugees who had escaped from a dying world projected their consciousnesses through time and made contact with a spiritualist named Mrs Vanguard in the 1890s, passing themselves off as ghosts. They planned to transfer their consciousnesses into the bodies of influential people in 1890s London with their ultimate goal to take control of Queen Victoria. From the historical records, they were aware that she was still in mourning for Prince Albert. The refugee possessing the body of Henry Gordon Jago mentioned that, in decades to come, there would be "brutal, terrible wars which will determine the fate of this planet." With one of their kind possessing Queen Victoria's body, they intended to "turn the tides of history" and create a new future, thereby preventing the destruction of their world. Their plan was defeated by Jago, Professor George Litefoot, Ellie Higson and Toby. (AUDIO: The Spirit Trap)

Sarah Jane Smith once wore a Victorian era dress she found in the the Doctor's TARDIS. The Fourth Doctor commented that Victoria had worn it. Sarah jokingly referenced the historical figure instead, commenting that she hoped Albert had not worn it. (TV: Pyramids of Mars)
