Bernard Bresslaw was an individual who, carefully-disguised, accompanied Fu Manchu's son to visit the Mahatma's 1946 address of Muslim and Hindu clerics in India so he could prepare for his role in Carry On Up the Khyber. (PROSE: The Beasthouse [+]Loading...["The Beasthouse (short story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
Bernard Bresslaw, in the real world, portrayed Varga in The Ice Warriors [+]Loading...["The Ice Warriors (TV story)"].
The image used in The Beasthouse [+]Loading...["The Beasthouse (short story)"] to illustrate him is not, in fact, one of Bresslaw, but an image of one of the individuals who was, in the real world, addressed by Mahatma Gandhi in 1946. Miles' reference to Bresslaw is likely in reference to Bresslaw's usage of blackface in Carry On Up the Khyber.
In the real world, Bresslaw would have been twelve years old in 1946, having been born in 1934.[1] Given Fu Manchu's son's time-travelling nature, the implication is that he has taken Bresslaw back in time.
