Dinah (Search for the Doctor)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Dinah was the name of a human child who lived in the 2050s. In 2056, she encountered the Second Drax and, potentially, K9 Mark III and the Sixth Doctor; although there were many variations of this source across several possibilities.

Dinah believed that "all futures [were] possible," but that "only one, out of the millions that [could] happen, [would] actually take place." (PROSE: Search for the Doctor)

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Meeting Drax[[edit] | [edit source]]

On day 220 of the year 2056, Dinah got a hotel in London and ventured to the Natural History Museum. There, she had learned, a family friend named Sarah Jane Smith had left a personal item some 50 years before. Dinah collected the item, a heavy crate, and had two strong porters drag it back to her hotel. She attempted to open it but had no luck. It was then that the Time Lord Drax appeared in the room, offering to buy the crate from her for €25,500. (PROSE: Search for the Doctor: Marker 0)

According to some accounts, Dinah accepted this offer. Drax paid in six gold plates. She asked for the hotel receptionist to help her store five of the plates in the hotel vault, and converted the sixth to street currency. (PROSE: Search for the Doctor: Marker 5) After this, she was either robbed by the receptionist and an accomplice (PROSE: Marker 8) or outwitted the pair with the help of Drax, depositing the money in the National Bank and living a wealthy life. In both accounts, Dinah lived the rest of her life in regret that she would never know who Drax was or what was inside the crate. (PROSE: Marker 13)

Meeting K9[[edit] | [edit source]]

However, most tellings suggested that Dinah did not accept Drax's offer and instead asked to see what was inside the crate. With Drax's help she was able to open it, revealing K9 Mark III and a letter from Sarah Jane Smith addressed to her. K9 connected to a Gallifrey databank and soon became informed about what was happening. Dinah learned that the Sixth Doctor, another Time Lord, had been trapped in a battle with a being known as Omega. Drax intended to take K9 to go save the Doctor, who was currently in Anti-matter stasis in the Mojave Desert.

Drax took Dinah to the roof of the hotel, where he had parked his TARDIS, disguised permanently as a 1956 Cadillac Eldorado. Drax had mistakenly believed that the Doctor would be in 1956, not 2056, and had landed the TARDIS on the roof of the hotel due to not knowing the building would be there. Dinah recommended getting a Skyrider Crane to lift the car down. As soon as Drax was gone, K9 recommended that Dinah steal Drax's TARDIS and leave to save the Doctor without him. (PROSE: Search for the Doctor: Marker 2)

One account suggested that Dinah followed K9's instructions, landing in Mojave Desert. She soon realised that they had specifically landed at a Nuclear bomb test-site in the 20th century. Before she and K9 were able to react, a Nuclear bomb landed, killing both of them instantly. (PROSE: Search for the Doctor: Marker 17)

However, nearly all other tellings suggested that Dinah instead waited for Drax to return with a Skyrider Crane in 2056. As the crane lifted the Cadillac to the ground, Drax attempted to leave without Dinah but was stopped by K9. Dinah, Drax and K9 soon drove through the night, stopping outside of the plastic replica of Stonehenge which had long replaced the original. There, K9 planned to send Drax's TARDIS to the Amargosa juganetic complex in the Mojave Desert as to disguise the TARDIS' materialisation signal as juganetic wave traffic. However, as K9 attached his probe to the TARDIS guidance systems, a moth landed between the probe and the controls. This caused the TARDIS to instead land on an Enterprise 21 space freighter attempting to re-enter Earth's atmosphere. The weight of the Cadillac TARDIS put the freighter off-balance, according to one possibility, leading to the group's death. (PROSE: Search for the Doctor: Marker 6)

However, another possibility found that Dinah instead pulled the dematerialisation master switch, causing the TARDIS and the shuttle to be sent into a pocket fragment of reality. (PROSE: Search for the Doctor: Marker 7)
