Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Produced for ITV, Primeval premiered in 2007. Featuring time travel, it was billed as ITV's answer to the BBC's revival of Doctor Who.[1][2] The producers of Primeval have consistently resisted comparison of the series with Doctor Who, calling Primeval more "reality-based."[3] Torchwood creator and Doctor Who head writer (2005-10; 2023-) Russell T Davies commented on the show in 2007, criticising Primeval's lack of ethnic casting as "shameful", but then adding "apart from that, I think it's excellent".[4]
- Among the creatures featured in Primeval were Gorgonopsid, Coelurosauravus, Scutosaurus, Mesothelae, Arthropleura, Mosasaur, Dodo, Pterodactyl, Anurognathus, Velociraptor, Smilodon, Mammoth, Pristichampsus, Giganotosaurus, Terror Bird, Dracorex, Australopithecus, Stegosaurus, Spinosaurus, Hyaenadon, Tyrannosaurus rex, Utahraptor, Titanoboa and Triceratops. Most of these creatures are covered in Prehistory Repeating Itself [+]Loading...["Prehistory Repeating Itself (feature)"].
- Cubicle Seven produced an RPG game for Primeval which used the same system as Adventures in Time and Space: The Roleplaying Game. The dinosaur stats from the Primeval game were reused in Prehistory Repeating Itself [+]Loading...["Prehistory Repeating Itself (feature)"] in The Silurian Age.
- Ultimately, Doctor Who and Primeval clashed in the TV schedule only once, on 11 April 2009: the Easter special Planet of the Dead started at the second half of the third episode Primeval's third series, which notably saw the death of series lead Nick Cutter.
- Among the actors who featured in Primeval were Ben Miller, Juliet Aubrey, Ramon Tikaram, Laila Rouass, Alexander Siddig and Ruth Bradley.
- The series has aired on other TV channels that have aired Doctor Who. Most notably, repeats of the series were previously broadcast on Watch. It also aired in the United States on Syfy and BBC America.
Character Options[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Action figures based on Primeval were produced by Character Options, which had earlier began releasing figures for Doctor Who.
- The Primeval sample packaging was different to the actual product packages and it had two Doctor Who action figures, namely a Slitheen and the Tenth Doctor.[5]
- In 2018, Character Options released a Doctor Who Bill Potts action figure that reused the legs from the Abby Maitland Series 1 figure and shoes from her Series 2 figure.
- In early 2020, Character Options released a Doctor Who Graham O'Brien action figure that reused the full body of the Stephen Hart figure, painted blue with a new head sculpt.
- In mid 2020, Character Options released two Doctor Who action figures that also reused the bodies of Primeval models with new head sculpts:
- A Ryan Sinclair action figure used the Series 1 Nick Cutter figure, painted black jacket and grey pants.
- A Yasmin Khan action figure reused the Claudia Brown figure, painted brown jacket and blue pants.
