Shellingborne Grant was the first officer of the spacecraft Vipod Mor. He was also an art thief, stealing from the planets the ship visited. (AUDIO: Slipback) His main desire in life was to be rich for no reason whatsoever. (PROSE: Slipback)
Grant's name wasn't originally Shellingborne Grant, as he had had a brain transplant to avoid being incaracerated for previous felonies. His original name was Carlyle Dinton (PROSE: Slipback)
His first crime was embezzling money. He was arrested, however, Shellingborne was let out on bail, which he jumped. Shellingborne then stowed away on a freighter headed for the planet Praxis 30. Grant bought another identity on Praxis 30 and became a career criminal - being wanted on twelve planets by age 26.
During his crime spree, he would meet a surgeon by the name of Oliver Sneed - a disgraced surgeon - in a Voxnic bar on Zaurak Minor and had him perform a brain transplant operation on him. Shortly after this operation, he took a job as captain of the doomed ship Vipod Moor. (PROSE: Slipback) In his time on the ship, he was assigned by Slarn to hunt down Peri Brown, who arrived on board with the Sixth Doctor. Peri encountered Sneed and Snatch, who were hunting down Grant and both mistook the Doctor for Grant. After Snatch was killed by the Maston, Grant joined the Doctor and Peri on board the TARDIS, where they learned from a Time Lord that the Vipod Mor was responsible for the Big Bang.
