Forum:Material from "Sightings" page on BBC viral website

The Cloisters
IndexPanopticon → Material from "Sightings" page on BBC viral website
Spoilers are strongly policed here.
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.

I recently removed the following from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

Apparently, the Ninth Doctor (described as an "odd man") was lying down in front of a bulldozer in front of his house. (WEB: Who is Doctor Who?)

and

The BBC's viral marketing website WEB: Defending the Earth! included a forum posting by a man named Arthur Dent, who wrote, "This rather odd man was lying down in front of a bulldozer in front of my home."

My reasoning was that since the material on that "Sightings" page was user-generated (I wrote one myself), it wasn't canonical. There was a previous discussion on the subject at Talk:Defending the Earth!, in which Tangerineduel said that the material was "canon-ish"; I'm not sure what that means, in practical terms.

In this particular case, I'd think that the second passage could be restored to the "Behind the Scenes" section, but other editors at Talk:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy thought it would be better to have a wider discussion here. Of course, if the article were re-written from a real world viewpoint, as previously discussed, the question would be moot. But I don't know whether there is any other material from this "Sightings" page elsewhere on the wiki. —Josiah Rowe talk to me 17:49, May 11, 2012 (UTC)

I did go on to say if there was any supporting information then it could stay.
So if there's any information around to support the statements (yes I know that's unlikely) then they can remain, if not delete them. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:02, May 12, 2012 (UTC)
