On 19 January, the following important behind-the-scenes events were known to have occurred:
- 2001 - Recording for Big Finish audio story Seasons of Fear completed.
- 2003 - Recording for Big Finish audio story Project: Lazarus completed at The Moat Studios.
- 2004 - Recording for Big Finish audio story The Roof of the World completed at The Moat Studios.
- 2009 - Filming began on TV: Planet of the Dead, the first of four one-hour Doctor Who specials to air during 2009 and early 2010 in lieu of a full season. The first scenes shot were of Michelle Ryan's character robbing a museum. (REF: Doctor Who: The Writer's Tale - The Final Chapter)
- 2009 - Concurrent with the start of production were rumours that Michelle Ryan and Lee Evans had been cast in the special. The rumours were later confirmed by the BBC, which released publicity photographs of Ryan with David Tennant.
- 2010 - Reports surfaced in US media that BBC Worldwide, Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter were planning to mount a US version of Torchwood for the American Fox network. John Barrowman was a potential star, reprising Jack Harkness, but at this point it was not known if the show would be a standalone remake or part of the established Whoniverse. According to The Hollywood Reporter a US-based "reboot" of Doctor Who was a possibility as well.[1]
- 2012 - Doctor Who Adventures comic story Picture Imperfect was first released by Immediate Media Company London Limited.
- 2012 - Recording for Big Finish audio story The Butcher of Brisbane completed.
