Crimean War
The Crimean War (1853-1856) was a conflict fought between the Russian Empire and the British Empire and its allies, including France.
Mollie Dawson's uncle was killed at the Battle of Inkerman on 5 November 1854. (TV: The Evil of the Daleks) In 1872, Major Thessiger told the Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown that he had fought in the same battle. However, the Doctor realised that he was lying as his account of the battle was both inaccurate and glamourised. (AUDIO: The First Sontarans)
On 25 October of that year, a commonly known part of the War occurred called the "Charge of the Light Brigade," in which light-calvary were accidentally made to attack artillery and were killed outright. Agonal, disguised as an officer, actually caused this so he could feed on and enjoy the agony and death. (PROSE: Blood Harvest) The Doctor was present at the Charge of the Light Brigade. On 11 November 1913, an elderly veteran of the Crimean War stood outside the entrance to the village hall in Farringham, Herefordshire where Joan Redfern and John Smith were attending a dance. Smith gave a donation to the Veterans of the Crimea, a charity for the by then aged survivors of the war. The veteran was later vapourised by Son of Mine. (TV: Human Nature)
