Howling:10 or 10A?

Everyone seems so determined to figure out the role of John Hurt's Doctor in the 50th that no one is thinking about David Tennant. What role will he play? Everyone assumes he's going to play the 10th Doctor, but from when? Rose will be there, so is it 10 with Rose? Meaning before he ever met Donna or Martha? Before he lost Rose in Doomsday? Before he ever met the Cult of Skaro? He was a different 10 back then; a very different 10. The loses hadn't piled up yet. Or, since Rose is there, will he be playing the meta-crisis 10? In a supposedly multi-Doctor 50th Anniversary, one real Doctor alongside one as-of-yet unexplained guy and one mere duplicate would almost be a waste; might as well just substitute 11 with his Ganger, too. Or, maybe, will Tennant be playing both 10 and meta-crisis 10? Thoughts?
Occam's Razor: the simplest explanation is often the best one. Tennant is coming back, alongside Piper, so most likely he is playing the Tenth Doctor from Season 2, before he lost Rose. It's an easier timey-wimey explanation than crossing an uncrossable barrier between universes. --Bold Clone 20:56, May 25, 2013 (UTC)
- Right, an uncrossable barrier...which was crossed one...two...three times. Am I missing any? (I started this but forget to sign it) —BioniclesaurKing4t2 - "Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically, . . . run." 21:04, May 25, 2013 (UTC)
I agree with Bold Clone. I think it will be the Doctor and Rose before he lost her. It will be interesting to see how it all happens. Before the Timelords made it happen...but now they are gone...or are they? Whosethebestwho ☎ 06:24, May 26, 2013 (UTC)
If (repeat, if) the encounter happens via the Doctor's timestream -- Eleven & Clara haven't got out yet, so it could -- it'd have to be Ten, because he's part of the timestream. The meta-crisis Ten is a separate individual with his own timestream that only touches the Doctor's timestream during the events of Journey's End. If the encounter happens some other way, it could be either of them, although "original Ten" is still more likely because of the barrier between universes.
From a dramatic point of view, "original Ten" seems to me to be better, anyway. For one thing, meeting Ten & Rose from before Doomsday would give Eleven a major "spoilers" problem. He knows they're going to be separated & he knows how they'll feel about that but he can't warn them. --2.96.22.127talk to me 10:20, May 26, 2013 (UTC)
- Also, a pre-Doomsday 10 is the one who first goes about trying to hide his true name in The Girl in the Fireplace, a story which was very suspiciously written by Moffat himself. He could have been planning this the entire time... And if it's pre-Fireplace, it would also have to be pre-School Reunion because there won't be Mickey. That would leave only The Christmas Invasion, New Earth, and Tooth and Claw for this to occur between or after. —BioniclesaurKing4t2 - "Hello, I'm the Doctor. - The Doctor's been hiding his true name since long before The Girl in the Fireplace & long before 10. The First Doctor was already doing it in An Unearthly Child! The Girl in the Fireplace is certainly significant, though -- because Reinette, while reading the Doctor's mind, says, "It's more than just a secret."
- The "no Mickey" point is a good one & seems to eliminate anytime from School Reunion to The Age of Steel but still leaves the latter half of Series 2. For intensifying 11's "spoilers" problem, the closer to Army of Ghosts 10 & Rose are, the better. If 11 (& we) knew the separation was about to happen to them, it'd add a sense of immediacy. It'd also make it more likely that they'd be saying the kind of "How long are you going to stay with me?"/"Forever!" things they were saying in the flashback scenes at the start of Army... --2.96.31.87talk to me 08:04, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
- "No one is thinking about David Tennant"...that is untrue. You can't know what people are thinking about and I imagine every fan is wondering about the Tenth Doctor's role in the 50th Anniversary program, specifically whether this is Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor from the parallel universe or The Doctor from Series 2.
- You might mean "no one is talking about David Tennant" and that might be because there was a warning on this site that posting information on this Nov. 23 episode would result in immediate ban from editing. I'm not sure whether that extends to The Howling but that warning has squelched a lot of conversation and is one reason why there hasn't been more discussion of the details of the 50th Anniversary episode.
- Since John Hurt's "The Doctor" could well be a character that is involved in the series beyond the 50th Anniversary, considering who he might be goes beyond discussing the November episode. Badwolff ☎ 19:36, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I did mean "no one is talking about David Tennant", though admittedly I didn't really do too much looking: I just wanted to make a place for theories to be discussed (and the Howling does have a Spoilers shield pop-up). Also, the wording was orchestrated in such a manner to attempt to inspire thought and discussion. —BioniclesaurKing4t2 - "Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically, . . . run." 02:47, May 28, 2013 (UTC)
I have seen filming photos. 2 TARDIS'. One was the tenth's model. Almost certainly original. 122.108.135.154talk to me 10:00, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
- Don't know what you mean by "original", as 10 had the same TARDIS throughout his entire run. —BioniclesaurKing4t2 - "Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically, . . . run." 15:54, June 5, 2013 (UTC)
- Poorly expressed though it is, I think "Almost certainly original" refers to the Tenth Doctor. I assume the reasoning is that the Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor would have a different TARDIS (if he had one at all, which depends on a deleted scene). --2.101.63.75talk to me 16:45, June 5, 2013 (UTC)
