Comarth Grange

Comarth Grange was the only house located on the Isle of Comarth. After its original owner, Sir Hugo Destrier, died in 1933, it gained a reputation for being haunted by a ghost known as the Old Peddler Woman. With nobody wanting to live there, in 1954 it was adopted by the local council, who planned to turn it into a tourist centre. In October 1955, before work was to begin, a team of parapsychologists from the University of South Grimster, consisting of John Struther, Margaret Schuman and Stanley Harris, was given permission to investigate the house. That night, Margaret was strangled to death, apparently by the ghost, who was photographed by Stanley. The house was subsequently abandoned.

Fifty years later, in 2005, the cast and crew of the television series Most Horrid, along with Stanley, visited Comarth Grange to record an episode there. They were interrupted by the arrival of Iris Wildthyme, who revealed that she had been the "ghost"; she had visited the house to borrow milk for her tea, thought Margaret was asleep and was trying to wake her up when the photograph was taken. Now realising what had really happened, Iris dressed up as the ghost and confronted Stanley, who confessed that he was the real murderer. (PROSE: Most Horrid)
