Merger with Emperor?[[edit source]]

On this wiki we usually have one page covering both versions of a gendered word. For instance, Lady President redirects to Lord President, and War King redirects to War Queen (since "War Queen" was used first). So Empress and Emperor should definitely be merged, but the question is, which one was used first? – N8 19:36, October 25, 2018 (UTC)

Unless Dalek Emperor appeared earlier than I remember, I suspect Kublai Khan takes the biscuit. Amorkuz 19:44, October 25, 2018 (UTC)
You're right: the Dalek Emperor's first appearance is in the Cadet Sweets cards, but we're not sure when in 1964 those came out, so Marco Polo is the safest bet. But weirdly enough, Kublai is only referred to as "the Khan" in that story, never "the Emperor" ... whereas he does refer to his wife as "the Empress". Looks like the merge tag belongs on Emperor, in that case! – N8 19:56, October 25, 2018 (UTC)
Hmm. I don't like it. It seems like missing the spirit of the rule by fulfilling the letter. I would have been completely fine with Empress being the main page, were it a real Empress in the first story, the ruler of a country, rather than an Empress by marriage. There were plenty of prominent female rulers in history and in DW. But there is little doubt that Kublai Khan is the Emperor and the real ruler there. The country is called the Empire. He controlled where its capital will be. Half of the plot revolves around him. That he is the Emperor is reflected in the text of his page. I suspect this is present somewhere in-universe explicitly. It seems wrong to deny him the title because no one explicitly called him the Emperor in the first story of his appearance. Amorkuz 22:11, October 25, 2018 (UTC)
If we're discounting Marco Polo, I think it would go to Nero as "Emperor of all Rome" in The Romans. He is introduced before Poppaea, the Empress. Should we perhaps look at which is used more?
