Time, Love and TARDIS was a Brief Encounter short story published in Doctor Who Magazine 189. Uniquely, it featured the Doctor's TARDIS as the main character of the story and revealed that it could talk to other TARDISES telepathically.

Summary

While the Doctor is talking with a Time Lord, his TARDIS and a replacement TARDIS have a telepathic conversation about whether Time Lords love their TARDISes. The Doctor's TARDIS believes her master loves her, but the replacement TARDIS isn't so sure and tells her that TARDISes are meant to be used and then replaced with a newer model. However, although the Doctor is offered the replacement TARDIS, he decides to keep his own TARDIS — apparently confirming what she has believed.

Notes

  • Paul Vyse's illustration is so large, the TARDISes are partially obscured by the text.
  • The replacement TARDIS is in the form of a plain white column. It's a newer model than the Doctor's Type 40.
  • The replacement TARDIS says a renegade Time Lord has little choice but to stick to the TARDIS they made off with, meaning they had a habit of continually heading into danger.
