- An English author begins writing stories for The Ensign, a magazine for young boys. He will later vanish into the Land of Fiction and become the Master of the Land ("The Mind Robber").
- Edward VII is crowned King of Great Britain and Ireland. Sometime during his reign (1900-1910) a Rutan scout ship lands off the Fang Rock lighthouse ("Horror of Fang Rock").
- The first British submarine is launched ("Enlightenment").
