Stonn was a Sontaran and leader of the Bloomsbury Bunch.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Believing that the Sontarans were narrow-minded in exclusively using war to dominate others, Stonn believed that capitalism would be more effective and, for this, was exiled to Earth in the 19th century. There, he made the acquaintance of Vella following her awakening.

Stonn became an entrepreneur and forged numerous "strategic alliances", advancing his way through society with the aim of accumulating great wealth. He met Tom Foster whilst attempting to re-energise himself using a dynamo in a factory and, grateful for his assistance, entered into a romantic relationship with him. He introduced Tom to Vella. (AUDIO: A Photograph to Remember)

Foster & Stonn[[edit] | [edit source]]

Stonn and Tom began a business partnership, establishing Foster & Stonn in Bloomsbury. Stonn gifted Tom with a Malampus crystal that he acquired from an alien in Cardiff, suggesting that they use it as a lens to forge spirit photographs. Tom disagreed with him, but the lens created what seemed to be legitimate spirit photographs, earning them a profit and giving Tom the respect that Stonn believed that he deserved.

Stonn gave Jenny Flint a discount for a photograph when he met her and Strax whilst promoting the business. He later found Jenny snooping in the building and learnt from Vastra of the revenants and his and Tom's unwitting role in creating them. He was able to persuade Tom to allow him to destroy the lens in order to stop the revenants, telling him that he should believe in the worth of his own art, and teleported away with him and Vella to avoid the Paternoster Gang. (AUDIO: A Photograph to Remember)

Further ventures[[edit] | [edit source]]

Stonn sold prognosticators to a fisherman to allow him to predict storms with bell-ringing leeches. They did not work, although Tom believed that the fisherman might have simply been using the wrong leeches.

Seeking to undercut the women who sold bird seed outside of St Paul's Cathedral, Stonn trapped dozens of pigeons with the aim of understanding their tastes. He then had the idea to replace the post office and telegrams by using the pigeons to deliver letters and small parcels, fitting them with poor quality control mechanisms which overheated when the pigeons were startled. This resulted in the pigeons exploding, leading him to abandon the scheme.

Stonn and Strax were captured by Skark the Merciless, who claimed to have come to Earth to assess the two Sontarans but actually planned to use them to force Vastra to expose Anura and her powers. Stonn later suggested that he and Tom leave the city, but Tom convinced him to remain to help save Jenny from Skark. Following Skark's death, Stonn and Tom left the city with data gathered by Skark which could potentially lead them to Vella. (AUDIO: Truth and Bone)

Reunion[[edit] | [edit source]]

Stonn and Tom were reunited with Vella, who left them behind in the Black Forest for a time whilst she dealt with Anura. Strax supposed that Stonn was making cuckoo clocks in the meantime and Vastra asked that Vella let her know when the Bloomsbury Bunch returned to London. (AUDIO: Rulers of Earth)

Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]

Stonn did not believe in the usual Sontaran ethic and instead devoted his life to capitalism, believing it to be a superior way of gaining power. (AUDIO: A Photograph to Remember) Tom described him as cross, determined and a shouter who was always thinking about profit and constantly had a scheme or two on the go. (AUDIO: Truth and Bone)
