Astro-Controller Clarke was the commanding officer of the human spacecraft United Kingdom, which was the battle flagship of the solar system's Tenth Space Fleet in 2065.
His ship suffered heavy damage in an engagement with an Astran space fleet at the border between the solar system and the Astran Empire, which had started when a warning shot from the Astrans was misinterpreted. (COMIC: Space Border Battle) The skirmish lasted for over fifteen minutes, (PROSE: The Astran Affair) after which Clarke made a report to Space City. Upon hearing it, Steve Zodiac concluded that a Space War had begun between Humanity and Astrankind. (COMIC: Space Border Battle)
Clarke begged Commander Zero, back on Space City, for reinforcements, but Zero instead ordered him to cease fighting and to retreat with what was left of his fleet to Border Station 72. Although reluctant to simply "run away" — as he saw it — the Astro-Controller complied. (COMIC: Ceasefire — But War Tension Mounts...)
