You may be looking for the real David Whitaker.

David Whitaker was an acquaintance of Terry Nation who helped him translate the Dalek Chronicles.

After Nation discovered a Dalek story-cube in his garden, a fragment of the Dalek Chronicles, he phoned Whitaker and described Skaro, the Thals and the Daleks to him. Suspecting that more of these records of future history had fallen through time to 20th century Earth, he began helping Nation to look for them and translate them. (PROSE: The Daleks) The first story-cube he worked on, alongside his colleague Alan Fennell, detailed the origins of the Daleks. He later translated the rest of the Chronicles on his own. (PROSE: The Dalek Chronicles Found!) Nation and Whitaker also worked together in adapting one of the story-cubes into a stage play. (PROSE: The Daleks)

Other realities

In Godfrey Porter's universe, David Whitaker was the story editor for the 1964 Doctor Who story The Outlaws. (PROSE: The Thief of Sherwood)
