Doctor Who Farted was a small cutaway gag that was broadcast within the Family Guy episode Inside Family Guy. It featured the licensed return of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor.[1]

The sketch was non-parodical, but instead merely comedic in nature. The official Doctor Who website describes it as a legitimate appearance of the Tenth Doctor and the TARDIS.[2]

Synopsis

The Tenth Doctor has farted inside the TARDIS and tries to keep a woman from knowing.

Plot

An unidentified alien race is destroying what appears to be 1950s London. The Tenth Doctor, having farted, emerges from the TARDIS. A woman enters and says that they have to go back to the 21st century, but the Doctor refuses. When the woman asks why, he tries to waft the fart away, while awkwardly saying 'So, how was your weekend?'

References

  • The cutaway is set up as the Griffins watching the show on TV in their living room.
  • The woman tells the Doctor that they have to get back to the 21st century.

Story notes

  • Family Guy obtained permission from the BBC to use Doctor Who.
  • The skit was subject of an article in the Radio Times and the official Doctor Who website. [3]
  • The Doctor wafts the smell by opening the TARDIS door outwards, rather than inwards. This echoes a conversation between the humanoid TARDIS and the Eleventh Doctor in TV: The Doctor's Wife regarding the fact that the Doctor continues to incorrectly open the TARDIS doors inwards. Other such cases were seen in TV: The Ice Warriors, Time-Flight and The Eleventh Hour.
  • The BBC previously held the UK terrestrial broadcasting rights to Family Guy from 2005 to 2015, during which it aired primarily on BBC Three, as well as BBC Two, thus sharing channels with Doctor Who and Torchwood. By the time Inside Family Guy aired, the rights had been relinquished to ITV, with the episode having its UK premiere on ITV2.
