Mocata Grange was a place in England.
While investigating strange occurrences at Mocata Grange in 1904, Thomas Carnacki met Iris Wildthyme. (AUDIO: Iris Rides Out)
Carnacki later told others about his glimpse of a world beyond while investigating "the squealing of the Pig Lords" at Mocata Grange, including Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and, separately, Dodgson, who wrote down the story. Notes
- The name was a reference to Simon Mocata, the villain of Dennis Wheatley's 1934 novel The Devil Rides Out and its 1968 film adaptation. Like the character Julian Karswell in MR James' Casting the Runes, Mocata was based on Aleister Crowley. Both Crowley and Karswell appeared in Guy Adams' Sherlock Holmes novel The Breath of God, which introduced Mocata Grange before its appearance in Iris Rides Out.
