Remnants was the second audio story in the audio anthology Manoeuvres, the fourteenth series of Gallifrey. It was written by Georgia Cook and featured Ken Bones as the the General, Chris Jarman as Rasmus and Carolyn Pickles as Ollistra.

Publisher's summary

A distress call from a Gallifreyan outpost brings the General, Rasmus and Veklin into contact with weapons of the Time War from both sides. Trapped, young Time Lord Cresta fights for her life against a relentless foe.

Plot

The War Room receives a garbled message sent from the Alpha Cognosco research station and the General volunteers to investigate, with Ollistra assigning Veklin to accompany him due to Leela being confined to the Capitol. Rasmus privately shows him a deciphered section of the message in which Cresta, the General's niece and aide, asks him for his help and joins him and Veklin on the mission. The trio find that those aboard the Alpha Cognosco have been massacred by a Berserker Dalek in an attack monitored by the Dalek Scientific Division and Veklin reports back to Ollistra, who tasks her with recovering as many prototype weapons as possible.

The General, Rasmus and Veklin are contacted from a barricaded laboratory by Cresta and Teblin and go to save them, splitting up when they reach a pair of corridors. The Berserker finds the two Academy graduates, but they escape and manage to temporarily freeze the mutant within with a temporal protoplasm inhibitor before it can kill Veklin, after which the three of them arm themselves with Bolt weapons. The General and Rasmus come across the group and they plan to freeze the Berserker to be taken away for analysis, a plan further complicated when three Science Daleks arrive on the station.

Whilst the General, Veklin and Teblin fortify the canteen, Rasmus collects more inhibitors and sends Cresta to the Battle TARDIS to prepare it for departure, ordering her to leave and report back to the War Room if the mission is unsuccessful. The inhibitors fail to freeze the Berserker Dalek and instead blind it, causing it to accidentally exterminate the Science Daleks. Teblin damages the engines to destroy the station and go out in a blaze of glory, but the General freezes him with an inhibitor and gets him into the TARDIS with everyone else before he can sacrifice himself. Alpha Cognosco is destroyed and Teblin admonished for the loss of the prototypes.
