The eighth instalment of Doctor Whoah! was printed in DWM 376.

Summary

It's Saturday night at the ex-Doctors club, and the Ninth Doctor turns away his Scream of the Shalka counterpart at the entrance, telling him to go and hang out with the other "not-really-the-Doctor" Doctors. The Shalka Doctor objects, claiming the other non-Doctors are "all weirdos".

Characters

Worldbuilding

  • The Ninth Doctor calls the "Shalka" Doctor "Withnail".
  • Dr. Who claims to be the only one with a moustache.
  • The "Fatal Death" Doctor farts.
  • The "Fatal Death" Doctor likes the "Party Animals" Doctor's bow tie.
  • The Eighth Doctor mentions having kissed a lady.

Notes

  • This is the first strip to feature other incarnations of the Doctor besides the Tenth Doctor.
  • The strip is a heavily reworked version of Lenman's prototype Doctor What strip, Doctor What 4. While the art assets between both stories are largely identical, the setup differs, with various past Doctor actors reacting to Christopher Eccleston's casting as the Doctor. The most drastic change between the prototype and the final strip are that the characters appear to be depicted as the in-universe Doctors themselves as opposed to the actors in costume. This change in context makes it considerably less clear as to why the First Doctor appears among the "not-really-the-Doctor" Doctors, as the prototype strip explicitly identifies him as Richard Hurndall, his actor in The Five Doctors, a detail that is not present in the final version.
  • The "Shalka" Doctor is mockingly called "Withnail", the titular character of Withnail and I, played by the "Shalka" Doctor's actor, Richard E Grant.
  • The "Fatal Death" Doctor farting is a reference to the Tersuran "language" utilised in The Curse of Fatal Death.

Continuity

  • The "Shalka Doctor" originated in WC: Scream of the Shalka, part of a Doctor Who continuation which predated the 2005 revival.
