Thomas the Tank Engine was a series of books which centred around a talking steam locomotive and his friends on the fictional island of Sodor. It was set mainly on a fictional railway run by a man known as the Fat Controller. (PROSE: Autonomy)

- Several voice actors from the Thomas & Friends TV series have appeared on Doctor Who and its spin-off material, including: John Hurt, Olivia Colman, Miranda Raison, Kerry Shale, Glenn Wrage, Michael Brandon (who narrated the seventh to sixteenth series), Tom Stourton, Teresa Gallagher, Nigel Plaskitt, Togo Igawa, John Ogwen, Hugh Bonneville, Martin T. Sherman, Chipo Chung, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Colin McFarlane, Eddie Redmayne, Steven Kynman, Keith Wickham, Ringo Starr and Toby Hadoke.
- Ardal O'Hanlon, who played Thomas Kincade Brannigan in Gridlock was offered the role of Patrick from Thomas and Friends in the CGI era, but turned it down.
- Neil Patrick Harris appeared in a YouTube video on the official Thomas and Friends page in collaboration with Funny or Die called "Neil Patrick Harris’ Thomas & Friends Obsession" for the celebration of the Railway Series' 70th anniversary.
