Biography

Main article: The Doctor's regenerations (The Curse of Fatal Death)

The Eleventh Doctor came into being when his previous incarnation unwisely decided to tinker with some wiring with unplugging a generator. He then regenerated into his next incarnation when he triggered an explosion after running into another room to avoid talking to Emma. (TV: The Curse of Fatal Death)

Psychological profile

Because women now terrified him, the Eleventh Doctor found Emma very intimidating. He even appeared shy when talking to the Master because his etheric beam locators looked like breasts. (TV: The Curse of Fatal Death)

Behind the scenes

  • In an early draft of the script, the eleventh incarnation was referred to as "The Plump Doctor", and described as "unprepossessing", with a parenthetical suggestion that he should be played by Mel Smith. His final name, used in the behind-the-scenes documentary and in Doctor Who Magazine credits, was "The Shy Doctor".[1]
  • Jim Broadbent previously played a rather different version of the Doctor in a sketch for an episode of Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV.
