Before editing this page, please read T:RUMOUR and T:OOU SRC. Fan sites, videos and blogs are not valid sources for this article. Also cast and crew announcements need to be handled in a particular way.

Please also remember to directly quote people, or to exactly characterise their statements. Do not say that someone said something when they really didn't. Work from original quotesnot a paraphrasing of them. When it comes to anything Russell T Davies, Jane Tranter, Julie Gardner, another exec, or any major star of the show says, give their exact quote only. Remember, a part of the production team's job is to tell the truth, but only very narrowly. So this page should contain only what they exactly say.

Overview

Early announcements

On 28 September 2023, during the Doctor Who @ 60: A Musical Celebration concert to mark the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who, Russell T Davies joked about having plans for a "series 4" that there weren't room for in "series 3".[1]

On 1 November, Davies revealed in SFX magazine that he was already planning his "season 3" now, and that there are plans for a "season 4" to come.[2]

On 25 April 2024, in an interview with Davies and Ncuti Gatwa published in Variety, Davies stated he was "already making plans" beyond the original two-season order, and Gatwa said he was "not going anywhere soon".[3] Gatwa reiterated this sentiment to Radio Times at the blue-carpet premiere of season one, saying he would "be around for a while".[4]

On 8 May, Davies told The Times in an interview that he had already started writing the season, even though it had yet to be officially commissioned.[5]

On 11 June, in an interview with Radio Times, Davies revealed that he was already working on this season, working on the fourth script, saying: "I’m working on the fourth script now for season three. It’s not actually commissioned, That’s still up in the air. But that’s the same for every TV programme. I shouldn’t say we’re confident, because that’s asking for a fall, but we’re very confident, to be honest. And we’ll just keep going." Davies also hinted at the possibility of Gatwa returning, and that the season would begin shooting early the next year, after Gatwa had finished a run starring in The Importance of Being Earnest.[6]
