Shadows of the Future (episode)
Shadows of the Future was the second special season pass storyline in the Lost in Time video game made by Eastside Games. It featured River Song and the Eleventh Doctor, as well as Amy Pond.
Synopsis
Earn Rory Williams's card while you help out River Song, who has been accused of murder on Mars!
Plot
On the surface of Mars, an explosion has gone wrong. River Song coughs and laments how it wasn’t done right, and that she keeps telling that explosives don’t work that way. An Ice Warrior finds her and tells her to stop and identify herself. She tells it and says she’s an archeologist. The Ice Warrior asks who gave her permission to excavate. She tells him she was collaborating with the local sage Zard. The Ice Warrior doesn’t believe her, asking where this Zard is. She says he was inside a cave with her but used explosives against her direction. The Ice Warrior still doesn’t believe her, saying he sees no of his brethren with her.
River asks if they can talk about it like civilised people. The Ice Warrior retorts that she used explosives on Martian soil and wouldn’t call humans civilised, then arrest her. River repeats that she hasn’t done anything and tried to tell him not to do it. The Ice Warrior doesn’t care about her excuses, says she desecrated their holy land and will pay. River says she won’t go back to jail, pulls her sonic trowel and zaps him. More Ice Warriors come and starts shooting.
River ask them to stop shooting and they tell her to surrender or be destroyed. River laments their insistence on being reductive, and realize they won’t stop shooting, so she begins Plan B and activates recall, hoping the Doctor hasn’t patched up the recall system.
The Ice Warriors tell her she’s surrounded and to come out. River says that the more time they waste, the less time they have to rescue Zard. The Ice Warriors are shocked to hear that she has kidnapped one of their own. River repeats that the explosion might have trapped him inside but the Ice Warriors think it’s a trick. River however, says that she dare not trick the valiants of Mars, but she may stall them. Before the Ice Warriors can think it through, the sound of the TARDIS can be heard. River says it’s right on cue, as the Ice Warriors yell to fire. The Eleventh Doctor is confused, saying that that wasn’t supposed to happen. Amy Pond asks what’s wrong, asking if they’re at their destination yet. The Doctor tells her that they’re somewhere, but not where they meant to, as the TARDIS just stopped. Amy questions him, asking if they need a space mechanic. The Doctor notices a light is blinking, saying that it’s never on. Amy tells him she worry that he actually doesn’t know how to fly the TARDIS. He tells her he remembers now that it’s the recall button and that he didn’t know that system worked. Amy asks him what they’re going to do, and he tells her they need to go out and find out what’s wrong.
The Doctor tells her that considering the oxygen levels and the temperature, they’re on Mars just as he is interrupted by open fire. River sees him and asks him why he is there. He asks her the same question, and she tells him that an accident occurred and a colleague is trapped. The Doctor asks her if the Martians are blaming her. She confirms, saying that they need to act quick or he might die. The Doctor invokes Convention 15 of the Shadow Proclamation and they tell him to speak.
Amy says she can’t believe the Doctor convinced them by dancing. River mocks him by saying it was bad. The Doctor says that he learned it from the people of the planet Gaim and that it’s useful in a pinch. Amy asks what they’re going to do now, and the Doctor explains they’re going to fix the drill and rescue the colleague. River adds that they at least should prove Zard’s existence. The Doctor hopes for the first one and River hopes for it before they bring their superior. The Doctor concurs, saying Ice Lords can he difficult to deal with.
Amy asks where the drill came from. The Doctor tells her it’s a relic. River tells him so is he and the bowtie. He retorts that they are cool. River brush him off, asking if they’re going to fix the machine. He says he’ll improvise. River retorts that he should tell the TARDIS console that. River asks him how he activated the… but is interrupted by the Doctor getting ready for business and starts to fire.
Amy says she just realized how weird it all is. The Doctor tells her that it’s just like Sunday afternoon for him. Amy says they’re on the surface of Mars firing lasers at a temple. River says it must be early for him too, but when he inquires as to what she means, she says "Spoilers". The Ice General Khard has arrived. River is relieved that there is someone who knew the Ice Warrior and he tells them that Zard didn’t have permission to enter as per their customs. The Doctor asks what costums those are.
Khard says that the temple was buried for a reason, according to legend that a millennial darkness was hidden inside and that’s the reason Zard was not authorized to explore it. River says that she has been an archeologist for a long time, and that those stories are… but the Doctor interrupts her, saying they’re always right in his experience. The blockage in the temple starts to crack. Amy warns the Doctor, but he is too busy talking to the Ice Lord, distracting himself about the title Ice Lord, but the temple cracks again and Amy insist he pay attention.
Zard's voice from the inside says he trusts River Song. Amy asks what happened to him, Khard tries to speak to him but the Doctor tells him to stop talking as Zard is not Zard anymore. Amy asks the Doctor what he is now, but the Doctor says "Spoilers". River says that being on the other side of that makes her realize how annoying it is. The Doctor asks if her sonic trowel still has charge as he can use it to modify the drill. River asks what they are going to do, and he tells her he’ll illuminate the temple until it is sealed.
River asks him if he’s going to tell what got him spooked, but the Doctor says there’s no time for that and tells Khard to turn on the laser as they leave, and tells River to leave too. Khard agrees to seal the temple. River asks him if he’s just gonna leave her without explanation. He says he will and asks her not to take his TARDIS again. She says she would promise that but they both know that won’t happen. He tells her that he is serious about it as the TARDIS is not a toy. She says she knows that, and they bid eachother farewell.
