Charles "Chick" Peters was an Australian investigative journalist. He was living in the United States during the 1980s. His experiences with the Sixth Doctor, the Eridani and the Savant were the basis for his book, Blue Box.

While Chick had XY chromosomes, his body did not respond to male hormones. He had a body that was seen as female, but he did not have a womb. He was raised as a girl but considered himself a boy by the age of fifteen. Chick was regularly suspected of being gay or a "frustrated lesbian" and faced being called sexual slurs. Peri Brown was uncomfortable to learn that Chick had intimate relationships with his girlfriends. Chick assuaged Peri in saying "relax; you're not my type." (PROSE: Blue Box)

Behind the scenes

While not explicitly stated, Chick likely has androgen insensitivity syndrome, an intersex condition.
