Brussels (Bruxelles, Brussel) (TV: The Bounty Hunter) was the capital city of Belgium, and a place that the Doctor visited on several occasions.

History

Early history

19th century

On 17 June 1815, just before the Battle of Waterloo, Napoléon Bonaparte tried to inspire his army by proclaiming that a victory would allow them all to sleep in Brussels the next night. (AUDIO: The Curse of Davros ^[+]Loading...["The Curse of Davros (audio story)"])

20th century

The First Doctor and Vicki Pallister followed the Robot Doctor and Dodo Chaplet to Brussels in 1911, where a scientific conference was being held. Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Hendrik Lorentz, Max Planck and Ernest Rutherford were in attendance.

While Vicki followed the Daleks to find them, Dodo abandoned the Robot Doctor, who planned to wipe out the scientists using his own self-destruct, in order to disrupt history, hoping to draw in the Doctor. In 2001, the Eighth Doctor reunited with Fitz Kreiner in the city, after a long period of absence from each other. There, they chanced upon Anji Kapoor and her boyfriend Dave Young, who were on a holiday which they hoped would rekindle their romance. Instead, they became embroiled in the Doctor's effort to prevent the Kulan invasion of Earth — during which Dave died and an emotionally devastated Anji became a companion of the Doctor.
