British Army
The British Army was one branch of Great Britain's military. The Doctor has worked directly with the British Army on a number of occasions; he has also been involved with them via UNIT.
History
In 1746, British Troops or "Redcoats" as they referred to at that time fought against the Jacobites in the Battle of Culloden.(DW: The Highlanders)
From 1914 to 1918, Britain and its allies fought World War I against Germany and the Central Powers. Some of the battlegrounds were Passchendaele, The River Somme and Gallipoli. (DW: The Sea Devils, TW: To the Last Man) A million British soldiers died during the war. (TW: To the Last Man)
In World War I Several troops or "Tommies" as there referred to at that time were abducted by the War Lords for use in their War Games. They helped The Doctor and his friends defeat the War Lords. The surviving troops were then sent by the Time Lords to their right time zone.(DW: The War Games)
From 1939 to 1945, Britain and its allies fought World War II against Germany and the Axis.(DW: Victory of the Daleks)
In 1941, Professor Edwin Bracewell made a break through in military technology, when he came up with the Ironside Project. Two where shown to Prime Minister Winston Churchill who informed The Doctor of this.(DW: The Beast Below) When he came to London he was shocked to find their true identity. When he revealed that he was the Doctor, the Ironsides revealed their true identity and when two British soldiers came to stop them, They were exterminated. (DW: Victory of the Daleks)
When WOTAN attempted to conquer Earth in 1966, the British Army fought against it's War Machines.(DW: The War Machines)
Some time before the formation of UNIT, a squad of British Troops led by Colonel Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (Who later founded UNIT) fought against the Great Intelligence and It's Robot Yeti servants.(DW: The Web of Fear)
Following the formation of UNIT the British army appointed a UNIT liaison officer to whom the officer in charge of the British branch of UNIT report. At the time of the Auton incident Maj. General Scobie was the British Army's UNIT liaison officer. UNIT troops were usually members of the British Army serving on detached duty and as such were subject to the orders of British Army officers of superior rank or could issue orders to British Army soldiers. Whilst the Battle of Canary Wharf in 2007 raged, the British Army fought the invaders across London. (DW: Doomsday)
In Christmas 2007, when the Racnoss Webstar attacked London. A British Army Tank acting under orders from Harold Saxon opened fire and destroyed it as it's shields were down.(DW: The Runaway Bride)
In February 2008 the British Army were involved in a conflict in Iraq.(TW: To the Last Man) It is unknown if this is the same Iraq War as in the Real World
When Britain closed its borders in an Alternate Timeline 2009, British soldiers rounded up foreigners and taken them to labour camps.(DW: Turn Left)
In September 2009, When the 456 demanded that 10% of Earth's children be taken to them. British soldiers were ordered to round up the lowest performing 10% of the UK's children and hand them over to the 456. They stood down when the 456 were destroyed.(TW: Children of Earth: Day Five)
