- 10 - DWN: Doctor Who and the Ark in Space is first published. Written by Ian Marter, this was the first time an actor involved with the series had composed a novel based upon it; Marter would write several more novelisations before his death less than a decade later.
- 25 - The first Star Wars film is released. This movie would revolutionize the presentation of science fiction in movies and television, including Doctor Who. Peter Cushing plays Grand Moff Tarkin in the film, and Dave Prowse performs as the body (but not voice) of Darth Vader.
- Tom Baker and Louise Jameson appear on Pebble Mill at One on BBC One.

- 17 - Target Books launches a series of educational books under the banner Doctor Who Discovers. The first three books, published this date, are Doctor Who Discovers: Early Man, Doctor Who Discovers: Prehistoric Animals and Doctor Who Discovers: Space Travel. At this point as many as 24 books are planned for this series (ultimately only two more see print).
