TVM research and other stuff

Other stuff first, have you noticed on all the talk pages that the Edit button has disappeared? I thought it might be a result of using the archive tool (as yours and my edit pages lack it), but other users' talk pages are exhibiting the same issues. Not even Control-E (keyboard shortcut for editing) could get me here, I eventually added Edit to the customisable bar in order to post this.

Have I done any TVM research? I moved the production stuff to a separate sub-page because it was overly long and needed referencing and copy editing. I've recently found my copy of Doctor Who: Regeneration and have been trying to get around to having another read through to write the production page out correctly. It's one of those pages that needs a fair amount of work and time to correctly source everything. I've added both the Sax and the TVM/Production to my followed pages and will hopefully get to Sax article when I concentrate on the TVM production. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:27, July 20, 2011 (UTC)

Wales crew

No idea when you did it, but thanks for updating the Wales crew stuff. -- Tybort 08:59, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Different versions of files

I seem to recall you deleting various in between versions of files because having a large number of versions of the same file would slow down the load time? (Or am I mis-remembering?). I bring this up as BroadcastCorp., has been going down this path with the Comics template on the main page see File:Dwm.jpg, File:Dwa.jpg, File:Twm.jpg. The only issues I have with it is; at some point their file histories are going to get gigantic, uploading a new cover sort of ignores the idea of 'a different version' (which I suppose it is technically a different version as the file name is very generic), at any one time we'll have two different uploads of the cover 1 for the template and 1 for the article(s). On the flip side having these basically named file names means updating is simpler, but, I dunno, it just seems a slightly backwards way of doing things, considering we'll always need an uploaded version of the covers. I'd appreciate any thoughts you've got on it (or am I just getting annoyed by nothing?). --Tangerineduel / talk 16:17, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Wales crew glitch.

Okay, I'm sure you're just tinkering around still, but the Production staff box of the Wales crew template has glitched out with an "{{#if:" showing next to the first credit.

Also, I think you can infer which version of the credits I'm using by the day I add them. -- Tybort 23:05, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguate DW: Tooth and Claw.

Works pages are protected from moving, right? Well, there's another work called "Tooth and Claw", so I guess we have to disambiguate this one into Tooth and Claw (TV story) using one of your bots to undo the protection for a time. -- Tybort (talk page) 11:47, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Also, are you able to edit Template:DWTV to make the change? -- Tybort (talk page) 12:57, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

I think he means, will your bot change the links from Tooth and Claw to the disambiguated form.--Skittles the hog - talk 13:06, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

It'll take a while, no question, but yes they should be all moved. All story pages are equal etc. etc. -- Tybort (talk page) 14:04, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

I had no change the link, I thought that User:Tybort was going to take care of it via his comments on the talk page. I only moved it since he had asked for it to be moved and was unable to do it himself. MM/Want to talk? 14:05, July 23, 2011 (UTC)
I hadn't known about the bot. Though considering I'd been doing edits on top of manually changing Tooth and Claw to Tooth and Claw, I wouldn't consider it a waste. Pretty good timing to tell me about this, as I was about to take a break. -- Tybort (talk page) 17:45, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

I wasn't intentionally changing the links, they were pages I have just created. Anyway, it's a complete mess, I told Tybort to ask you to loose the bot, but I don't think he understood. I think it's safe to do so now. I assumed the user who moved the page would take responsibility for the links as that's what I do, but whatever. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.--Skittles the hog - talk 19:18, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Sure thing. I just finished the Albert article but I can stick it on a word document and publish it tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up. On an unrelated note, can you see my comments on chat as I don't think it's working for me?--Skittles the hog - talk 19:31, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

That's great. As for crazy links, they're all over the place. Ghost Light had a "See Also" section with just a link to Tooth and Claw, the link probably being that they're both Victorian, which is ridiculous. Thanks for making the switch.--Skittles the hog - talk 10:49, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

new image categories please

Hi, been really busy this last 10 weeks at work so playing catchup. Could you add as drop down categories under copyright magazines the following 'Radio Times', 'Doctor Who Insider' and 'Doctor Who: Monster Invasion'. Its possible I've asked before, I know I've asked someone! Anyway, much appreciated. Thanks The Librarian 16:24, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

The Master main image

That Top Ten list isn't really catching on, sorry about that. No one is really paying much attention. We should revert to the old, original poll, not the new and fancy one. BroadcastCorp. 19:27, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Zamper

Not sure if you can do this, but if you get a moment, can your bot switch the links of Zamper and Zamper (planet) so that the novel is disambiguated (and the planet is not). Thanks--Skittles the hog - talk 19:49, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Ta. Not a big fan of the "always disambiguate" thing. However, the fact that Inferno should be disambiguated is annoying and sort of sways me. Anyway, thanks again.--Skittles the hog - talk 21:19, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Spam protection filter?

Almost every time I try to save an edit, it comes up with this:

I am definitely not comitting any spam to this website, I assure you, so why this is coming up, I have no idea. BroadcastCorp. 10:47, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

A spambot was hitting Wikia really hard and a number of people ended up getting that result. It's also pointed to a bug in the wiki code that the techs are working to fix at the moment. -- sulfur 11:59, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

Wiki background

I like the new wiki-background. Really promotes the wiki really well. But look at the top of Captain Jack's head. The are three completely different kayer on top of him, which, frankly, is ugly. I have managed to get rid of those layers on top of his head, to a nice smooth layout: Here: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/File:Wiki-background-submission.png. Tell me what you think! BroadcastCorp. 11:07, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

Can you use you bot (CzechBot) to rename every meantion of "BroadcastCorp." to "BroadcastCorp". Thanks. BroadcastCorp 07:26, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Featured articles (again)

Morning, could you take a peak at User:Skittles the hog/Sandbox two, where I have created a version of Tardis:Feature Article nominations that you may approve of. I know your not a fan of the current system so any feedback would be great.--Skittles the hog - talk 08:21, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Utopia (TV story) as the next featured article?

Do you think this could be the featured article next month? Would you vote for it? It has all the qualities a featured article could have. BroadcastCorp 15:19, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Disable our chat feature

We should get rid of it. Sure we had some fun with it when it was first enabled, but now no one really uses it. And anyway, we should just use talk pages to talk to each other, not an instant messaging service. This is an encyclopedia not an instant messaging site. BroadcastCorp 15:59, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

Erm...it helps with editing. Please ignore the above message, it's a great tool and, thanks to your blending, looks fine in the wiki format.--Skittles the hog - talk 16:09, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

"Please ignore the above message"? That's a bit rude. Very rude in fact. Very near to a personal attack in my opinion. But, moving on from that - or should I say partially moving on from that - everything Skittles the hog said above is opinion. He has no evidence that it is so great and wonderful. But I do. But I would never ask a user to ignore another one's comment (unless it is rude, nasty or unsigned). That would be pathetic. BroadcastCorp 16:58, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

No evidence? With the chat system, in the few weeks it has been active, both I and Czech have created an entire category system for the documentaries, discussed several issues pertaining to the improvement of this wiki e.g. article reception sections, feature article nomination and the even smaller topics such as the light chamber. The list could go on so I have no idea where your criticism is coming from.--Skittles the hog - talk 17:08, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

It's obvious it's coming from me. BroadcastCorp 17:16, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

Do I need to be here for this discussion? Lol. Never seen an entire discussion break out on my talk page before I got to read it. Anyway, we're keeping chat. Thanks for your input, BC, but actually we've had a long-standing forum consensus in which the community seemed to be behind the idea of a chatroom. We just never operationalised it. (See Forum:IRC channel for more.) Now that Wikia have finally given us an easy tool for it, I see no reason to get rid of it. If you want to seek consensus to overturn that earlier motion, you may, but my talk page isn't the place for it. I suggest, however, that if you don't like the chat feature, simply don't use it.

Species Stub

The image for a Species Stub is one I dislike and distaste. It's got no colour, and it's a boring illustration of a naked male human. This is my new suggestion: one with a Silurian...

Tell me what you think! BroadcastCorp (talk) 12:41, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

Alright, I get you. But did you really need to delete my file image suggestion. And that Silurian image was a promo, not from a screenshot. BroadcastCorp (talk) 12:13, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

Featured article this month (August)

Now that July has finished, we need a new Featured Article of the Month, don't we? We can't keep having DW: The Big Bang as a featured article, because that simply doesn't meet up to standards. I think either DW: Utopia and The End of Time should be the featured article this month. BroadcastCorp (talk) 17:49, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

Featured article

Hi, sorry it took so long to answer you, I've been away. Anyway, all your ideas sound positive and, as I'm sure you've noticed, the whole reworking is far from finished. Feel free to edit my sandbox (or copy the text etc.) to show your suggestions.

On an unrelated point, what's going on with Recent Changes? Is this statistic thing you're own addition? I can't find any mention under the community area nor the Forum:Panopticon. Thanks--Skittles the hog - talk 12:55, August 6, 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I've had some time to actually read in depth what you put (been catching up on Torchwood, good stuff). Again, I agree completely. So how do you suggest admins discuss these six (five?) articles. Here? On the forums? In the chat tool? At Tardis talk:Feature Article nominations is probably the best bet actually.... --Skittles the hog - talk 17:34, August 6, 2011 (UTC)

Templates category

Could you take a look at the Category:Templates, it seems to be collecting a collection of random articles. The only thing I can see that they share is the Real world template, but it hasn't been changed recently and the category isn't collecting all real world articles, just a seemingly random selection of articles (and one image). I'm used to the wiki occasionally hiccuping and producing weird results, but not something this random. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:22, August 6, 2011 (UTC)

Yep, it's gone now, so it was a glitch.
Just curious is the ability to list stuff in categories something you've just discovered or something that's recently been enabled? As you seem to be rocking it out at every opportunity! I'm only mocking lightly, it looks to be a useful feature, especially on the help pages, one less thing to think about when creating new policies and the like. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:41, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Navigational question

I've recently created Template:BFA monthly (it was just BFA then I moved it, which may have been a mistake), and have been trying to decide whether to include stuff like the subscriber stories, DWM and stuff like Excelis within the list in that navbox or have separate navboxes. On one hand the navbox is divided by Doctors/Companions, so the stories should go in there, but on the other hand they're a separate/sub-series along the same lines as Template:BF EDA. --Tangerineduel / talk 16:08, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

DPL

Could you take a look at London#Districts. It's showing Category:Ealing and I'm not sure how to prevent this, if it is at all possible to do so. Don't suppose you know how?--Skittles the hog - talk 14:38, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Na, theres nothing in the story DWU-wise called Dependence Day. It's got the name because its a character driven story. That means less work for you I suppose, can't be bad. --Revan\Talk 16:03, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Move page The Silence to Silent

Can you move the page for me please. As when I tried to do it it didn't really do what it was supposed to. "The Silence" is the plural. Whereas "Silent" refers to just one. Can you please move the page as soon as possible. Thank-you. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 10:00, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Delete File:The-impossible-astronaut.jpg temporarily

Can you please do this. Because I'm trying to upload a new image of that file and it just isn't doing it. The wiki interface must be broken down or something. So can you delete it temporarily. Thanks. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 14:08, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Have you deleted it yet? BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 15:54, August 14, 2011 (UTC) [1]

Okay, I tried uploading a new image of File:The-impossible-astronaut.jpg, as I didn't like the sea tide's position, as it wasn't smooth. I proceeded to upload a new file to that image, and it did it, or so I thought... The picture didn't change at all! It was exactly the same one as the last image. Is that enough detail for you? Help/Advice

Help...I'm starting to get to the point where I just want to delete all of User:Doctor Who 63's file uploads and block them.

Though I'm trying to temper the impulse to block and delete because some of the contributions are useful, others have just been annoying and it's slow going to re-edit, add some DVD/VHS covers into articles that are already uploaded and remove duplicates.

I usually have buckets of patience for people who respond/abuse me/threaten me (I can deal with all of that) it's the people who say nothing. Doctor Who 63's actions aren't quite enough to be in breach of any of our policies (except for not copyright tagging them)...it just frustrates me. Many of the covers are already happily listed (and copyright tagged!) in the various galleries I linked for them.

Or should I just take a breath and go and continue working on the BFA navboxes, isolated away from the annoyances of the recent changes? --Tangerineduel / talk 14:53, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Maybe I was a little harsh, I was hoping for a response anything would have been nice, to know that there was someone listening (sigh...). Even if he didn't know what I was going on about, a reply asking for more information would have been helpful, then I could have tried to help him through and explain why I was leaving messages to him.
Thanks, though for looking into this thoroughly.
I've never used the button, which probably is why I didn't see through to this issue.
Now looking at the gallery button/menu, if we could modify it, to remove the 'upload photo' part and force you to select from the most recent uploads, that would mean you'd have to upload prior to using the gallery. But I feel that's few too many steps and just makes it awkward.
The add to gallery button and the sub-menu it brings up is fairly complicated, would it be possible to alter it to get you to the licensing drop down select?
But then, I think the "upload to this gallery" menu is still a bit limited, it only allows you to choose from recently uploaded or upload a new photo.
Which is probably also why the user in question didn't know what to do with the galleries I pointed him towards.
I think disabling it would be the easiest way to consistently apply our policies.
Let me just run with how I'm thinking this out; the copyright tags need to be applied to all images, we can agree on that one. So working from that point; we have policies and processes in place to make it as simple as possible to add a copyright tag (and adding a tag means less tedious work for admins who trawl through the uncategorized files page).
So working from that premise, the "add a photo to this gallery" button jumps over several policy based and management areas of the wiki, ultimately making more work for admins and other dedicated editors.
I can say that I don't think I can handle it, I'm fine with words, dealing with people (most of the time) and the other basic stuff. But this sort of getting into the guts of the wiki, not so much, so I think I'll have to step aside to your greater skill.
File:1.jpg wasn't linked to anything major and had been replaced several times, but 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 were, and others like File:The Web Planet.jpg was being used in an infobox as the story's main page, and then I found it had been replaced with a DVD cover. The same goes for File:Attack of the Cybermen.jpg (which weirdly he replaced with a DVD cover, reverted to the original image and then replaced with a VHS cover). These replacements annoy me especially because they're harder to detect easily, images not categorised just end up in the aforementioned uncated files, but these are tagged, but they're mistagged.
Yes, I do think we need to ban the use of gibberish file names. I've been trying to move on all the ones we've currently got to more descriptive names (again it's one of those tedious things I do on occasion).
But how do we stop or even educate people? If it's a good image then do we just move it? Then the uploader may just shrug and think 'well they've fixed it'. Do we just adopt a blanket ban on gibberish file names and delete immediately? --Tangerineduel / talk 05:41, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

(I am now asking you this, because Skittles is now inactive). Who played Albert Einstein in DW: Time and the Rani? Really in need of reply. As in the infobox it just says "to be added". Thanks. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 16:16, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Rollback rights

Could I have rollback rights? I really want to protect this wiki from vandals. And I have been here for quite some time. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 16:57, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Doc cats

I'll create that categories in a moment. For future reference, you can find them under Special:WantedCategories. I'm not really sure what your "p.s note" is talking about (I'll think of an excuse later), could you clarify?--Skittles the hog - talk 17:32, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. Way to make a guy paranoid. :) --Skittles the hog - talk 17:47, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Rollback

I wouldn't be against removing rollback from the user rights request form and User rights page. Your points made on BroadcastCorp.'s page are valid. I think the two users who have rollback rights have edited in the last two weeks, so I think they can just be left where they are. Whilst we just re-edit the user rights page to reflect that we think using the undo is more helpful etc. --Tangerineduel / talk 18:10, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Although I'm not blocked, now, I would like to make a complaint. Last time I edited, I was adding information about Amy's Ganger and all that. User:Mini-mitch blocked me for adding "false information". That is wrong, he didn't even give me a warning. I was so stressed and worried, I had to go on holiday to calm down. I tried to reboot coming back, but still. How was that last blocking fair? BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 17:32, August 15, 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism policy

I'm sure I've mentioned (probably more than once), that some pages, policies and other things were written in response to issues that arose, and after that only revisited when other things cropped up and were tripped over. So new edits and a fresh look at these policies is always good.

There's a few things though I thought I'd bring up:

1. Swearing on a page is justified in context. Transit lists how many times a word is used, and I don't think that's vandalism or should be starred out. So maybe that should just be altered to read 'deliberate out of context swearing' on a page will result in an immediate ban (or is that too wordy?).

3. What's an "administrative ban"? I mean I know what it is, but within the article will readers who don't put together admin and ban, and how is that different from just being banned, or even blocked from editing (which is the wording I usually use, as blocked users can still edit their talk page), unless we click that particular box preventing them from being able to.

5. Is an interesting one, should we be bringing up the oft quoted on Wikipedia the NPOV? I don't think we've mentioned it at all in our policies, it's just something we've done generally in editing.

Your own talk page. I think there should be a note in there that you are allowed to 'blank' your own talk page or cut/paste it to create an archive. Which is in line with our Tardis:Archiving policy. That's about all I think. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:55, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

If there's anything else I will change it.
But you seemed to imply wanting a critique, so I went through and looked into it. (I didn't mean to seem lazy with my editing, I just thought you had the style you wanted for it and I'd provide some feedback). :) --Tangerineduel / talk 16:29, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
The reason I had the archiving policy worded like that is, well, is the archive tool actually available to everyone? I just had a look at the Harry Potter Wiki and I'm not presented with an "Archive" command (or is the archive option something you've introduced through wizardry for just us here?)
I'm...not sure about this extreme revision though, I'm uncomfortable about making it something violatable, as it is something preserved within the page's history, it can be a chore, but it still exists. Even on Wikipedia which has more rules than I care to think about, say that "archiving one's own user talk page is optional", it does go on to say that it "is not considered best practice". But crucially it does say it's optional. It's said at least twice here on their talk page guidelines and on their archiving a talk page page.
I'm fairly sure that's why I had that particular stance when the talk pages/vandalism etc were drawn up, that it's an option to archive. I know I frequently blanked my talk page, because everything is in the history, and if you make a clear edit summary when you do (or even not the page size drops to near zero) so there is a clean break.
I think we need to be wary of using policy to force people into this, you don't need to archive it's best practice to, but on the flipside I don't think we should prosecute for blanking a talk page. I think in this instance it should be about teaching/understanding best practice rather than forcing people into it. I don't think it should be forbidden to blank a talk page, as we're always going on everything's in the history, even if you delete a page all the information is still lurking there. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:14, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
I don't even know how to spell Rax… (I usually just go to Slitheen and navigate from there), damn you RTD and your hard to spell aliens, why not names like Nimon?
I understand where you're coming from, I fancy it was Broadcast Corp.'s removal of his conversation from your talk page that started you thinking about all this.
People tend to think of their user/talk pages as "theirs", no matter what you want to say, their name is at the top of it, they're alerted when someone leaves a message there. Yes, it's a public discussion but it's one linked to you, even more so given out signature policy which states that if you customise (in another step of making your presence here more personal) it must contain a link through to your talk page. So I think your talk page is yours, as much as your signature is the method through which "your" edits are identified. When you sign up you become "fully responsible for all use of your account and for any actions that take place using your account." The talk page is linked to your account, it is part of the host of features that Wiki Central has decided to allow for usage, including the blog etc.
Isn't the conversation changed anyway, whether you remove comments or not, given that all conversations take place over two talk pages? And unless both parties archive around the same time there's still a disconnect between the talk pages.
Doesn't this exception work on Wikipedia, they of all the rules, regulations and quick to warn for not citing. I've in fact blanked my Wikipedia talk page twice.
I was also pondering whether this information, or at least some of it might be better suited to the discussion policy.
If your talk page isn't yours, you're just a "steward" of it, what compels me to listen, respond or do anything about any discussion added or placed on it? It is a discussion that is directed to me, but I do not have to listen to or even acknowledge and as the vandalism policy has neatly separated 'you' from 'your talk page', why should I? I'm just playing devil's advocate here, that's how I'd argue it, were I one to blank, ignore or whatever else my talk page which is not connected to me and isn't supposedly "my" talk page, but rather something that I steward.
The archiving element doesn't in theory concern me, but how you're defining the talk page, considering Wiki Central's always going on about "community" aspects of editing and being on a wiki, the wording is separating out elements of that, being a steward is very different from it being "yours". I don't think we should be any harsher than Wikipedia, which I find is about the hardest 'wiki-style' site to edit on. I do agree with some aspects of Wikia Central's actions and ideas, wikis should be more personable and more forgiving and I think making you a "steward" is just...not the right way of going about this. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:34, August 18, 2011 (UTC)
I try not to agree with everything you say (joking).
But often it is because I am trying to play the other side, because I still remember being the only admin answering questions like this and kinda like to know the reasoning behind it.
I may have also got hung up on the word steward.
Your points are all good and valid, I'm sorry you have to explain things a little further to me, as I said, I just like to understand the full reasoning behind it, especially should I ever be quizzed on the reasoning behind it.
Now that definition of "your", being associated with you, makes more sense than stewardship, I know essentially it's the same thing, but it just doesn't read as the same. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:18, August 19, 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm...
Okay.
Isn't Wikia going to keep doing this, constantly messing with all the customisations, except their bog standard ones (or have they messed up their own stuff as well as our fancy...umm... stuff)?
This isn't a case of wait for a couple of days and see, Wikia does seem to like to rush things out and then let problems cascade in. Which is somewhat understandable, even with their various test wikis you can't test for everything and the only way is to push it out to unsuspecting wikis with fancy stuff. --Tangerineduel / talk 17:40, August 19, 2011 (UTC)
I wasn't arguing against it, more musing 'aloud'. You've already convinced me why we need the archivetool/need to archive. I'm not suddenly going to grab this as a reason not to. It's a bug, I'm used to various things breaking whenever Wiki decides to roll out a new 'extra special feature that's going to make everyone's editing on their wikis extra special!'...or something like that.
And no, no archive for me, but the two "History" links are back, I seem to recall they were around for a while and then disappeared. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:12, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

Righty-o

Fair enough, could of done with a heads up as it was hardly an urgent issue, but thanks for dealing with it. My main issue is that we need to discuss the remaining articles for this year, per your suggestion. Forums?--Skittles the hog - talk 19:41, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

Archive tool

Nope.--Skittles the hog - talk 18:17, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Categories

Ah, that's what I get for copying. I had no idea how to further categorise so I just looked at a similar category and that was how it was done. Unfortunately, I can't remember which one, so they'll be another category out there with the same mistake... wow that was boring.

Thanks for the heads up and on an unrelated topic, I've started your recommended feature article thing at this talk page.--Skittles the hog - talk 23:05, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Something to talk about

I'm sorry Czech, I can call you that can't I? Giving people nicknames is kind of my way of being friendly. I'm really sorry about deleting that message. I was quite ashamed of it. I know not to do it. I am very sorry, so sorry, really really really sorry. I hope I can be forgiven. Now about the new profile redesign. I don't mind it. Although I think it should be optional to have the new design like it is with the new edit page redesign. It should be added to Wikia Labs. And also, can you let me edit the page Let's Kill Hitler. I'm trying to expand it as much as I can, without breaching policy. Looking forward to the next series? Starts on Saturday coming. I'm sure it will be brilliant. Like the new avatar by the way. I miss the talk at the Master, but thinking about it, you're image was the best. It really stands out. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 14:52, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Safari & User images

I generally only use Safari sparingly, usually not-logged in and only as a reference tool (not just for this wiki but for others, not being logged in helps not get distracted with editing/talk messages). So I haven't experienced anything.

The user image policy looks good. Good work on the image limit. I was never really happy with how I wrote that in the policy, it did the job, but it was a bit awkwardly explained when I wrote it.

License required / user image copyright tag, should, given the wording here, the references to fair dealing/fair use be removed from that tag? --Tangerineduel / talk 16:12, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism policy - talk pages

Do we need to make a note at tardis:Vandalism policy that the removal of comments unrelated to the discussion is acceptable (per {{talk}}), or have you made a note of this elsewhere?--Skittles the hog - talk 18:26, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

User's Images Poilcy

I just read it a couple of time now, and every thing seems fine. The only fine I would say is we need to comment about unused User's images, which just stay in the "Unused Images". We need to say either

  • That if we fine an unused one it will be deleted

or

  • You will be asked what you want to happen to the images, either kept (in which case it must be added to your page) or deleted.

This is to try and cut down on the number of unused images (there very few, it at all any Users images in the used images) . MM/Want to talk? 18:37, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

fix for personal css and js

This is Rappy's Fix, due to the TOU you cant have it wiki wide:

to return non-existent categories to their former color, simply add: to Special:MyPage/wikia.css
.newcategory {
color: red !important; /* or your color of choice */
}

and add this to Special:MyPage/wikia.js

$(function() {
  $('.newcategory').addClass('new');
});

Category exhibition

I know you are a sysop obviously, so I am asking you this. Can you enable the Category Exhibition for this wiki? It's brilliant, and lots of wikis have it. You can enable it on Wikia Labs. Thanks. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 11:02, August 22, 2011 (UTC)

That's fine. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 16:07, August 22, 2011 (UTC)

Task list

Hello. Is there anyway we could implement a feature akin to Wikipedia:To-do list. It's a talk page template that lists what needs to be done to improve an article. I know this isn't far off what the {{cleanup}} template does, but articles that need improving by not necessarily cleaned up could use this. This could be a nice kick up the backside in terms of article quality. What do you think?--Skittles the hog - talk 20:33, August 23, 2011 (UTC)

Moving categories

Any chance you can moving the following categories?

They should be move to X Doctor DWM comic stories

They should be moved to X Doctor DWA comic stories

These should be X Doctor TVC comic stories

and finally Category:Stories set in Washington, should Stories set in Washington D.C.

Thanks. MM/Want to talk? 21:52, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

River Song Template

I think we should have a River Song template at the bottom of her articl and every episode (article) she has appeared in. What do you think? Should we do that or not? BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 15:21, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

Gallery and licensing

Wikia have got back to me and have stated they are now working on improving the gallery tool. MM/Want to talk? 20:47, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

You may want to see this...

I've added a pic suggestion (based on yours) on Talk:The Doctor. I would love to hear your opinion on it! BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 08:31, August 26, 2011 (UTC)

Could the phrase "WTF" get you chat banned?

User:Frostbite used the term "WTF" on one of his messages. We all know what that stands for. The "F" bit. Could he get chat banned for using this kind of language? BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 17:29, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

Impressive achievements

They all look good...curse you! All your work makes it all the more harder for me to say...nah...it's just a gimmick. (Not that I'm liable to say that as it all does look good...but I thought I'd be consistent with my opinions in the forums)

I would disagree with the policy I like the formalised rules. But it is good you've laid out that it's a game, and that's been emphasised.

Just one question "Wikia Achievements" is the formal name for the feature implemented isn't it? I was just looking through the policy and I was going to edit statements like "Wikia Achievements is" to "Wikia Achievements are" but I paused for moment, now that I've stared at both iterations of the sentence they both read as correct...to varying degrees. --Tangerineduel / talk 07:08, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Branding it as our own would be nice. Though while "The Game of Rassilon" would be nice we'd need to disambig it. I was more questioning its actual name.
I think now that we have lots of rules and policies to fall back on it's easier to police than back (whenever they were first introduced) when we had a less broad reaching policies and a much smaller admin base to police them.
The leader boards, I can't say I'm as enthused as you are I'm afraid. I usually just keep an eye on the recent activity pane, sometimes looking in on the WikiActivity page and then also the recent changes. --Tangerineduel / talk 16:36, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

BroadcastCorp

Hello! Seeing as your an admin, I thought I'd go to you about this. Basically, I removed some stuff from The Trickster/Behind the Scenes because it was speculation and I thought it didn't really belong there. User:BroadcastCorp reverted it and justified it, which I suppose was fine, but then when I rebutted, he sort of started being a bit nasty about it, as you can see here. So, I looked around a bit and couldn't find any policy or anything regarding this, so I thought I'd go to an admin and .... I don't know, I suppose ask what I should do or something like that. Hope this can be worked out soon, etc, etc. Bigredrabbit 07:59, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry about what I did. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 15:46, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

We need an expansion template

We really need a template which says a particular section is of need of expansion. This is an example of what it could say:

This section is really in need of expansion

But the editor who placed this tag failed to give a rationale by using the format. As there is no rationale, this tag should be removed immediantly.

Or for a page and not a section:

This page is really in need of expansion

But the editor who placed this tag failed to give a rationale by using the format. As there is no rationale, this tag should be removed immediantly.

So, what do you think. Should we have this template or not. I could suggest an image if you accept this. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 16:48, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Signature help

Hi, CzechOut. I'm having a bit of trouble with my signature. On User:D0ct0r11/sig, when I insert the "SUBST:#time:H:i:s D" code, and then sign with my signature, the timestamp displays the time at which I saved my signature's code, and not the current time. As you're the go-to-guy with the wikia's coding, I thought I'd ask you for help. I'm having to rely on the fourth tilde at the moment to display the timestamp correctly. D0ct0r11  15:55, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your assistance. It's much appreciated. D0ct0r11  11:08:30 Tue 8 Aug 2011

DWM cats, issues, Achievements

I didn't even think of the Achievements! Sorry.

I did think, briefly, that having them in year-by-year categories would allow us to have them integrated into pages via the 'category thing' (can't think of what it's called the dpl…thing, does it even have a name?).

Maybe, me calling it 'unruly and long' may have spurred Skittles to delete them from the pages. (oops again).

A usefulness for by-year categorisation may make itself apparent in the future, maybe Skittles has something planned for the future... --Tangerineduel / talk 07:54, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

DPL vs footnotes

It appears that DPL stops the footnotes from working it they're positioned, as usual, below it. This came to light when I created the page Z-Cars. Obviously footnotes look rather odd in the middle of a page, so I was wondering if you could take a look. Thanks--Skittles the hog - talk 11:14, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Sabotage! A contributor at

86.129.73.251

has been messing up the page "The Tardis Worshippers". I fixed it once, but he did it again. Apparently it will require a staff member to deal with this sort of nuisance. Boblipton 19:58, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

I've blocked the user, thanks for letting us know. --Revan\Talk 20:20, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

Category rename

Could you rename Category:Eleventh Doctor DWA comic stories and Category:Tenth Doctor DWA comic stories so that the abbreviation is DWAM. Just so there is no confusion between them and the annuals as DWA is, as I'm sure you know, the prefix for annual stories. Thanks--Skittles the hog - talk 12:14, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

Could I recieve any rights? Any right you think I might be worth using? BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 12:18, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

Chat ban

Okay. Maybe I deserved it. I was getting out of control. Thanks for calling me a smartass, as that is a slang term for an intelligent person. So I thank you. Now, down to business. Not chatting fine. Who needs it. We've already got talk pages. So, how long will it last? But just- I can't be chat banned. I won't use the software. Ask users to threaten me off the chat if I ever go on it. But please don't make me actaully chat banned. But make me banned from chat in secret. Kick me off. Get other users to do it, if I go on their, which I will not. Is that okay? [ I'm sorry I really am. All I said was "And for cursing CO", now cursing, how to define that word: profanity. I was simply offended. It's like arresting people for protesting. Fighting for what's right. So please uncheck the box, and I promise not use the software until you think I should. Could that be a deal? Oh and read this: http://www.bsa.govt.nz/assets/Research/What-Not-to-Swear-Full-BSA2010.pdf. BroadcastCorp (talk | contribs) 16:56, September 2, 2011 (UTC)
