In 1843, the First Doctor and Susan Foreman met Siger Holmes in India. Holmes told them about a temple whose priests were allegedly able to chant open a gateway to another world. In a later adventure, the Seventh Doctor learned that this other world was the planet Ry'leh. (NA: All-Consuming Fire)

In Trafalgar Square, the finishing touches were being put to Nelson's Column. On 23 October, the Fifth Doctor found that the contractors Samuel Morton Peto and Thomas Grissell had been possessed by Sevakrill. He managed to appeal to their human selves to break free and spent the next two weeks disposing of a missile they had placed inside the column by lowering it into the ground.
