"Shooting star" worlds were those that, in the early days of the War in Heaven, would suddenly shoot across charts of the Spiral Politic as their relationships with history were drastically changed by the enemy.

According to advanced specialists in the Spiral Politic, if one of the shooting star worlds collided with the Homeworld, it could take the Homeworld's place and retroactively replace it as the centre of history, wiping the Great Houses and their influence from the timeline and securing victory for the enemy.

The House Military often scrambled to engage these shooting star worlds, creating time-front worlds and, depending on the outcome, scarred worlds. However, by the fiftieth year of the War, the Houses and their enemy had become entrenched to the point that these shooting star worlds were no longer seen.
