Wright brothers

Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright, (PROSE: Fallen Angel) known together as the Wright brothers, were human inventors. (PROSE: Gudok, et al.) Theirs was the first manned aeroplane flight, landing in Kitty Hawk on 17 December, 1903. The landing was witnessed from a distance by time-traveller Albert Cragg. (COMIC: Dr. Who's Time Tales)

Though they were often credited with the invention of powered flight, in fact the Victorians had invented indoor powered flight, while the Wright Brothers had invented outdoor powered flight, as the Twelfth Doctor told Clara Oswald when discussing how the British do not like to boast of their achievements. The brothers, Wilbur and Orville, appeared in the Doctor Who Annual 1968 feature Pioneers of Flight, which described their their maiden flight at Kitty Hawk in December 1903.
