Publisher's summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

Cameron is haunted by strange voices. As she gets on with her job conducting tours around Rochester Castle, she hopes that they'll just go away.

Fortunately for Cameron, the Doctor has joined her tour. He hears the voices too, and he knows what they mean. Time itself is starting to fracture...

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

After the TARDIS crashes near Rochester Castle in 2015, the Doctor joins Cameron's tour and corrects her on several points of history before asking her about ghost stories connected to the castle. She leads him to the battlement where a white lady supposedly walks and the Doctor confirms that the ghostly voices that she has been hearing every day, which have been becoming increasingly louder, are indeed real as he can hear them too. The castle is suddenly surrounded by mist and ghostly knights appear, attacking the castle with trebuchets. The Doctor and Cameron get the tourists to safety in the souvenir shop with Alex, who goes into the mist to investigate and fades away into nothingness.

The ghostly knights become more real and the Doctor and Cameron see King John and William d'Aubigny during the 1215 siege as the castles of 1215 and 2015 attempt to occupy the same place in spacetime, which could cause a temporal explosion and collapse timelines. The Doctor and Cameron are arrested and the Doctor shows William d'Aubigny his psychic paper, which claims that he is a messengers from Louis. The battle begins and the Doctor tells Cameron to listen to the voices again, transporting them to the remains of the castle in 2815, a third time zone in the temporal struggle. Cameron somehow knows about 29th century technology and leads the Doctor to a bunker.

Cameron remembers that the castle was attacked in the 29th century by Lord Protector Brazier, who overthrew the Earth President, and that she was sent back in time to assassinate him. It did not work, however, and she was splintered across time zones which are now being pulled together in an attempt to make sense of the three versions of her. The Doctor has her focus on the voices and return them to 1215, where he tells her to ride into the mist on a horse. She does so and they are transported to 2015, where she goes into the mist once again to return to 2815. Finally, the Doctor repairs the time machine and transports the both of them back to 2015 without Cameron being splintered, allowing her to resume her life there.
