- Author Kara Dennison said that the story had heavy influences from the legends of Gawain and Yvain. She wrote, "People in the Middle Ages were very good at altering their perceptions to resolve what they "knew" to be true with what they observed of the world -- and that's what goes on throughout this story."[1]
