Who's After Your Cash (short story)
Who's After Your Cash was a short epistolary story written by Rowan Atkinson to tie in with the release of the 1999 mini-episode The Curse of Fatal Death.
It featured Atkinson's Ninth Doctor, and was released in The Mirror Official Comic Relief Nosepaper, issued by The Mirror on March 12 1999, and constituted this Ninth Doctor's only official appearance other than The Curse of Fatal Death until his cameo in the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures novel The Tomorrow Windows.
Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Ninth Doctor submits a rambling letter to a newspaper, beseeching its readers to consider helping to raise money for disadvantaged individuals in conjunction with the broadcast of a Comic Relief TV special.
Characters[[edit] | [edit source]]
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
The Doctor[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Doctor's favourite events in history are the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the first man to set foot on the Mars in 2019, and the "record-break[ing]" Red Nose Day 1999.
- The Doctor gives his age as being over 800-years-old.
- The amount of "silliness" that Earthlings get up to always surprises the Doctor.
Individuals[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Doctor mentions that the "demonic" Master and his "glamorous assistant" Emma will both appear in the televised "Comic Relief spectacular", as will the Daleks.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- This story was written to serve as a lead-in to TV: The Curse of Fatal Death, with a not-so-subtle implication that the TV special mentioned by the Doctor is The Curse of Fatal Death itself, and may technically have been the debut of Atkinson's Doctor — although only in a matter of hours within the same day.
- The photo of the Doctor and Emma was taken by Mauro Carraro.
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Ninth Doctor mentions his "glamorous" companion Emma. (TV: The Curse of Fatal Death)
