The Monster in the Cupboard was the fifth novel published in The Decades Collection on 26 October 2023 by Puffin Books to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who.
The novel was written by Kalynn Bayron and covered the 2000s and featured the Ninth Doctor.

When the Doctor and Rose stumble across thirteen-year-old Lily, they both agree she needs their help.
Lily thinks there are monsters in the closet, hiding under the bed. And that they've taken her mother and brother - who went missing months ago.
When asked about the monster, Lily can only say it's made of immense light and power. Rose and the Doctor must find out who and what the creature is, and where it's taken Lily's family.
It is a search that will take them from the Cardiff Rift right back to the childhood of Lily's grandmother, and another disappearance all those years ago...

- Miriam Henwick's house was built in 1894 by her ancestors, at that time for use as a base of operations for their copper ore mining operation.
- When Miriam was a child, King George V died, and was succeeded by his son Edward, who abdicated, leaving the throne to his younger brother, George VI. This would be known as "the year of the three kings".
- That year, Miriam's cousin Phillip disappeared under mysterious circumstances. She told her mother, who had her father and aunts and uncles search for the boy.
- The Doctor scans Rose with his sonic screwdriver, and tells her she's dehydrated, with an "abysmal" electrolyte count.

- The original publisher's summary says that Lily's mother and brother went missing months before, and describes Lily as being thirteen years old. The actual novel begins on the very night of the disappearance, and says Lily is twelve.
