- At school, Rani Chandra and Clyde Langer are reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, whom the Ninth Doctor met.
- The Shansheeth trawl the battlefields of the universe for dead people who need a funeral. A rogue group of Shansheeth called themselves the Brothers of the Wing and claimed to have found the Doctor's dead body in the wastelands of the Crimson Heart 10,000 light years away from Earth.
- Jo Grant married Clifford Jones and changed her name to Josephine Jones.
